The Balm of Gilead or Té de Canarias, as its name suggests makes an excellent herbal tea and is used to treat depression, indigestion, colds and flu, and chest complaints. It smell has been described as a mixture of lemons and camphor and it strongly perfumed.
Balm of Gilead grows in the forests of Tenerife where they get regular clouds keeping them damp. The specimen shown was in Aguamansa where it is very common. It also grows in Agua Garcia and many other forested areas in the mountains.
