http://www.mesoncastellano.com/

This restaurants is based on El Camison in Play De Las Americas but is in walking distance from Las Vistas Beach area in Los Cristianos.

We went in on Sunday evening and was suprised it was open as being Canarian run this is usually their day off.

We entered with a very busy waiter who switly and politely asked us where we would like to sit. There was not much choice as the place was buzzing with people of all nationalities, ages etc

We sat and was immediately asked what we would like to drink. I wouldn't say speaking Spanish was essential as they speak enough English for someone to get by; although I would suggest making an effort as it is part of the experience and they appreciate the effort and help you along if neccersary it also helps you learn more!

The Canarian gentleman asked me what we would like to eat after very efficiently serving our Canarian wine, not being here before I was unsure what to expect.

The plesant and refreshing change was there no menu..... this was especially good for me as I also struggle with what to order.

We got asked if we wanted meat (carnes), fish (pescados) or tapas.

We said tapas.

WOW ! We got the following all very swiftly however evidently freshly made:

Prawn Cocktail served in half an avocado which was light, refreshing for a start.

Typically Canarian we then got a plate of serano ham which went lovely with the basket of fresh bread we were served and vinegerette.

Next came a tuna, cubed lightly fried in garlic and olive oil with potatoes. I must say many places get tuna wrong and it can become tough however this was the most melt in your tuna we have ever had. The portion was just the right size too !

Lastly but no least we got 2 shoulders of lamb in red wine and rosemary sauce with vegatables and potatoes and again the meat just fell off the bone.

Chris then explained to them it was a meal for my birthday and they brought me out a lovely typically canarian desert which was big enough for 2 people with a candle in which was a lovely finish.

By this point we were nicely full and ordered 2 carajllos which is a Canarian expresso with brandy and they were lovely as a digestif.

Then the most important bit the bill we were expecting it to be in the region of 80-100e and we would have paid that however we were so suprised when it was only 60e including drinks !

Would go again and again and the lovely part about it was people were ordering what they wanted for example a couple next to us asked for fish tapas, another table asked for a selection of meat, and other ordered specifically things like lamb cutlets etc.....

This proved the made the food fresh to order!

A must go for holiday makers or residents !
