Tenerife has many spectacular endemic species of sowthistle (Sonchus spp) and all have medicinal properties. Sowthistles, or Cerrajas, as they are known in Spanish, are good for high blood pressure, fevers, migraine, pain relief and as diuretics. Some species are very large and showy with their yellow flowers like Dandelions. Some like the Canary Island Tree Sowthistle are very rare.
