..my youngest filmed some, what we thought were geckos, when we were last in the reef, will they have been baby tenerife lizards, or are they the same thing?? they were having a lazy stroll up and in between the rocks by the duque beach...very interesting to watch!!

..good article bard, i always want to visit the places you write about!

Thanks for enjoying my article, Sara! The places I write about are nearly all easy enough to get to so maybe you will be able to check some of them out for yourself next time you are here?

Without seeing the reptiles you are talking about it is impossible to say. Geckos live in rocky areas as well as the Tenerife lizards, and to complicate matters more, so do skinks. They all look very different though. Geckos have bigger eyes and bigger toes, which they use to grip onto smooth surfaces including ceilings, and skinks are very shiny and with pointed heads and small legs in proportion to their bodies. Geckos are more likely to be seen at night and they hide away by day.
