What exactly is it? We purchased an apartment and was told to go to Las Americas with a form we were given and hand it in at the Police HQ. We did that last November, the nice lady in broken Spanish said come back and pick it up in two weeks, needess to say we thought leave it till we are back out as nothing is ever done on time out there. We are coming out in 5 week (can't wait). Do we just go to the L.A. police HQ and pick it up? Anybody else had this problem and are there different kinds of N.I.E's?? What i mean is can we look for work? |

NIE Numero de Identification de Extranjeros.
Or in English Identification number for foreigners. for locals it is NIF fiscal identity number.
It's basically a fiscal identity number which is recorded for any official transaction that you make. You need it to have a normal life here, from insuring or buying a car to paying electric bills to getting paid for insurance claims, almost anything. As an EEC citizen you can look for work or start your own business. When you get your paper from the police KEEP IT SAFE. you'll need photocopies of this for many things so get a dozen made and keep the original safe. |
