Post subject: Correct Pronunciations |
|
|
Hi to all
Does anyone know of any websites which show (or provide examples) the correct pronunciations of words?
For example:
Buenos días. (BWEH-nohss DEE-ahss)
I have checked the links already provided in the forums but I wondered if there was anything in which you could type in an English word and it showed the correct way in which to say it in Spanish?
One word is driving me nuts to pronounce correctly is 'caballo'
Incidently whilst on my last hols I kept hearing a word used which sounded like 'wah wah' (hope it's clean) does anyone know the translation?

Go to a little program called words galore
Here is the link http://wordsgalore.com/
It gives you the word in English and Spanish and plays it with a Spanish speaker _________________ What do you mean my Birth certificate has expired ? |

Why do you always think you'll be corrected Mary!
Gua-gua means bus, like you said!
I would write caballo like this (for pronunciation purposes):
ca-baa-jo (j as in the soft French j in je) but that is a Galician way (and also south American), others would say, like Mary ca-ba-li-o
If you ever want to see how to pronounce a word, I don't know of any sites but if you don't always want an immediate reply then I am willing to help so just post what you need to know on here. that goes for anyone else too. _________________ Who am I? www.wordreference.com is an online multi-lingual dictionary and gives the pronunciation in a sound file.
Search for the Spanish word and you'll get variations of use in context as well.

As in English, there are probably numerous 'correct' pronunciations for any word and most will be understood by most people.

That's the only dictionary you'll ever need. It's great. And if you cannot find the word in it's dictionary, it also gives you forum threads regarding the word, or if it doesn't appear there either then you can ask on the forum, and within 5 minutes you usually get about 5 replies. _________________ Who am I? I can't either!!!
Also everyone pronounces things differently.
Karl, I would not put an l in the word caballo (when pronounced) but many do. _________________ Who am I? Find out more here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=17
