Post subject: phones and filters in Tenerife |
|

In the UK if you have ADSL you had to put a filter on the socket you are using for your router.
Here In Tenerife you need to put a DSL filter on the telephone one.
Does everyone use these who have ADSL.
What if I do not use it?
Thank for any help. Juum you there?

With the Spanish system you must use a filter/choke on every telephone or it can interfere with your adsl. _________________ .

What does this filter look like please and where does it go? I have problems with my phone and Broadband - basically if I answer the phone when I am online the chances are my Broadband will disconnect and a lot of the time the line is really bad with crackling making it hard to understand what the caller is saying. I am wondering if I need a filter? _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

Hi Bard it looks like this. This one is a double ie You put your phone connection in one side and your router connection in the other. Mine is just a single for the phone. The router plugs straight into another telephone socket in the house.

I don't have one! I have a purple box with Telefonica on it and 2 LED lights and Datos and Conexion and cables from that into the PC and into a small connection box between it and the lead that goes to the phone socket in the wall. Looks like I have missed out on a filter all this time unless the little box is one. If I haven't got one and they are needed it would explain why I have had so much trouble with disconnections and bad lines! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

the box that your modem came in should have had 2 or 3 filters in it. What is the small 'connection box'? An inline filter? Does it have DSL filter written on it? _________________ .

If you have a crackly line then ring 1002 and report it. If you can';t do it in Spanish then just say "English" when the computer answers you. _________________ .

The picture is only IF you have one phone socket Bard and need to plug both router and telephone in at the same point.
The filter goes on the phone if it is plugged in another phone socket in your home. _________________ Need a cleaner in South Tenerife ? Cleaning just got better... www.maid4tenerife.com

Looking closely at the small box, which is white, it doesn't have anything written on it at all but it does have two sockets like the one in the picture so I am wondering if it is an old model. _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

I have had this problem before and reported it. It was fixed eventually. But it has returned and sometimes with a vengeance and other times not at all. It usually starts OK and then starts to crackle and eventually becomes really hard to hear the other person! I also get a lot of wrong calls, so I don't know if that's anything to do with it.
I'll try reporting it again! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

So I don't need a filter after all then if I only have one phone, which is what I have? _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

Sorry Bard its getting confusing.
You must have this little white box plugged into your socket in your home. Your phone then plugs in the other end. You only need this filter if you have ADSL which I am sure you do. You then plug your router into ANOTHER telephone socket in your home.
NOW, IF YOU ONLY HAVE ONE TELEPHONE SOCKET in your house but need to plug the telephone in as well as the router thats where you would use the double socket filter that I have pictured above. It would filter the phone line but the router would bypass the filter inside with a direct connection to the socket.
Clear as mud. Good lol

Why don't you take photos of your two boxes and post them on here? _________________ .

Here you go Bard, here is mine.
The phone has the filter and in the second picture the router goes straight into another telephone socket with no filter.
