Post subject: Best weather in the world? Also, north vs south! |

I've heard such claims made about Tenerife and the Canary Islands in general.
From what I've read though, it does seem to get uncomfortably hot in summer, especially during the calima storms.
Is the climate generally considered comfortable in summer?
Or as too hot?
And North VS South: Which has the best climate?
I know the north is cooler, cloudier and wetter.
Is it more humid though (and does it feel more sticky up there when it gets hot)?
Which is your personal favourite - that, or the sunnier and hotter south?
The north seems more comfortable from what I've heard - although the hot summer temps in the south are great for the beach, they may be less appealing for manual labour... |

i live in the south and yes it is hot but i love it.........the calimas and few and ....thankfully far between. it does get hot when they vome but we go shopping to the air conditioned malls.....or just sit in the pool.....lol
the north generally is cloudier, wetter and cooler. but it is also very beatiful and green.
The weather is nice even in the winter...yes it rains but still not as b ad as UK. _________________ Find out more at www.myspacetenerife.com

Hi Mequa, welcome to the forum.
I also live in the South of Tenerife and on occasions it is very hot but then again it depends on what you are doing. Working in an office with air con, or labouring outside in the direct sunshine etc. For social activities I find the weather perfect although as I have a 3 year old we try to keep him out the sun between 12 and 3 ish. The evenings from 5ish onwards are lovely just as the sun sets. Especially when there is a slight cool breeze.
The Calima’s I have heard are quite unbearable and I have yet to experience my first one. This is something I am not looking forward to. I have heard comments such as there is no wind, no air, its like walking in an oven with a head wind.
I would say most of the replies you get here are going to be that the weather in Tenerife is comfortable as most people on the forum either live here, holiday here or are looking at living here.
If I did not like the heat I would probably be living somewhere like Iceland lol.
In answer to your question I would have to say I prefer the South, more sun.

Hi Mequa, same goes for me too, have been visiting the Island for many years and moved out here for good last June and absolutely love it. We are also in the South and agree with Loopy even when it rains, which we have seen quite a bit of here it is still nice, clears the air but still warm. Woudn't want to be living anywhere else now. |
