My virgin post...so here goes!! We are travelling to Tenerife with our 4 year old and 4 month old children. I take it taxis dont have child seats. Are the laws in tenerife such that car seats are a necessity for children....indeed, is the driving in tenerife such that a car seat is a necessity?! Im stumped as to what to do......
Any advice would be greatly recieved. |

Welcome JordyD, I honestly don't know what the law is here but we have seen drivers with the children sitting on their lap!!! Do know that if you hire a car you can also hire children's seats and booster seats. Hope you manage to sort it OK though. Cheers |

If the seatbelts meet with the childrens neck then they have to be in a car seat. Babies must be in a car seat especially if you hire a car. You can ask the hire company for a seat free of charge in most places.
As for taxis. I have never had aproblem getting one with my little ones, but i do'nt go that far. Saying that any amount of distance is to far when you see how the spanish drive.
My advice....Bring a car seat over if you intend to be using a car at any stage. You can get them put in the hold of the plane. Failing that try booking a taxi that will have one in there for you .
It is always better to be safe..... _________________ Find out more at www.myspacetenerife.com

Hi JordyD and welcome to forumlandia
It IS required by law here for children to wear a seatbelt but many don't As for taxis, I'm not sure whether they would have them available or not. I will try to find out for you next time I'm passing a taxi-rank.
If all else fails, I have a baby-seat that I could lend you for the 4-month-old and for the 4 year old you could just bring a booster seat or buy one out here - you can get them for about 15€. |

Hi JordyD,
Here is my advice.
If you, your wife, your partner, are in any doubt whatsoever about the safety of your children bring a car seat and booster.
You can always use them again and again. _________________ Need a cleaner in South Tenerife ? Cleaning just got better... www.maid4tenerife.com

| Thanks very much everybody! We only intend getting in a taxi twice. Once to get to the hotel and once to get back to the airport! (Thats twice too many times by the sound of some of the posts on here!! Thnaks for the offer Jenny, that has to be the kindest thing ever, but I think we are going to bring our own even if we only use them twice its better to be safe. Thanks again all |

| When I flew with my son as a baby I took his car seat on the plane anyway and a booster seat doesn't weigh much so yes, I'd bring them too. |

There was a recent article in the paper over the confusion of car seats and taxi drivers.
Basically children should be in a car seat, however when getting into a taxi it is your responsibility, not the taxi drivers, to ensure you have a car seat. _________________ Need a cleaner in South Tenerife ? Cleaning just got better... www.maid4tenerife.com
