I enjoy excercise but to a certain extent, ie. not mountain climbing. I play football and I'm in the T.A but thats about it for me! _________________ Moving to Los Cristianos next Sept time. |

IMHO Garachico has the finest hotel in Tenerife (if you like boutique type hotels), the San Roque. Mrs H and I spent 2 nights there last year for her 40th.
Here's a blog I did on Tenerife Times about it.
It is simply stunning, one of the finest hotels I have ever stayed at anywhere in the world.
The drive there is also spectacular, reminds me a bit of snake pass in the Peak District. _________________ A gourmet who counts calories is like a tart who looks at her watch

Hopper is so right on the drive, it is not for the faint hearted lol
Lots of swings and downward slopes, keep in 2nd gear.
It is virtually a sheer drop down to the coast but spectacular at the same time.
Make sure your seat belts are plugged in all the way down.......... _________________ Need a cleaner in South Tenerife ? Cleaning just got better... www.maid4tenerife.com

A lot of the roads are like that up here and I think the bus drivers are amazing! The most spectacular (or scary) road I know is the Santiago del Teide to Masca one! The road from Icod to there has loads of bends and steep climbs up through El Tanque, Ruigomez, Erjos, and down to Santiago and then more mountainous road through Tamaimo and Chio to Guia de Isora. I am often glad to get out cos the ride is so stomach churning I get travel sick! lol
You should try the San Andres to El Bailadero and Taganana road up in the north on the other side. It is similar in its curves and steep climbs and drops! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

I'm used to the roads round here now! Mind you, before I moved to Chio, I lived in La Escalona for 2 years and it's a pretty similar drive up that way!
The drive up Teide is a LOT straighter this way though...
I remember driving back from Loro Park a couple of years back via Icod & Erjos. I ended up having to stop for a bit, 'cos it was late at night and I was getting 'road blindness' from starring at the white lines in the middle of the road to guide me round the corners! _________________ Buy & Sell your stuff online FREE - www.canarianexchange.com - eBay for the Canaries |

The bus drivers often do that stretch through thick cloud too in the early evening for some reason! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

From looking at your picture Bard is that some kind of landslide?
Is it dangerous to live in Garachico? _________________ Need a cleaner in South Tenerife ? Cleaning just got better... www.maid4tenerife.com

It was dangerous when the volcano erupted and buried a lot of it, yes! That "landslide" is the path of the lava. A lot of it went into the sea and created the pools there and much of town was buried under it and had to be rebuilt! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

No way, so from hundreds of years ago nothing has grown on the flow section? Its as clear and lifeless now as it was all those years ago after the eruption? _________________ Need a cleaner in South Tenerife ? Cleaning just got better... www.maid4tenerife.com

I can see clumps of vegetation growing on it!
You often get very sparse growth on lava or none at all and you can see loads of areas with very little on them up on Teide. I would imagine it is very hard for seeds to germinate on a dry and scorched ground and at Garachico it is also it is on an incline so any water would drain straight away! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |
