Post Post subject: Orange Trees Reply with quote

In February we bought a lemon tree and a couple of Orange trees.

I am over the moon with the Lemon tree which is really healthy and has 6 large lemons on it. The orange trees however seem to have the leaves turn brown, shrivel up then drop off. Any ideas and advice on care and watering of my Orange trees?

Bard would probably be the best candidate for a reply...he is very green figured.

Glad to hear that your lemon plant is growing. I would love to have my own garden here and grown some nice fruits and stuff. At the moment I live in a community so the gardens are everyones lol...never mind one day ..

Well, she actually said 'green FIGURED' so I'm assuming his body is now painted green and he walks around showing it off!

Actually, a bit off topic, but my bloke saw bard on the bus from Tejina the other week... he asked me last night if he had a blue beard. He was going to say hello, but wasn't sure if it was him!!! Shocked Laughing

...and who'd be bothered? If I lived in a community I'd be really happy if someone planted a nice lemon tree in the gardens... you could always mention it to a few neighbours if you really want to make sure, however I can't see them objecting. Just think of all those Gin and Tonics

Failing that Rob I will use your garden lol

Put on your best school girl uniform and go and ask the president if you can plant a lemon tree.....I'll bet he won't be able to resist......

Yes, I get the bus from Tejina on Sundays if I have gone to Flicks down in Silencio. I get a lift back as far as Tejina usually around 5 and have to wait to get the bus around 6.30 and go in a bar or the pizza place.

The orange tree should be OK if the lemon tree is because they are closely related. It's very hard to say what has caused the problem without seeing it. What are the trees planted in?

I don't have a garden only terraces so they are in square pots. The pots are fairly big as I transplanted them as soon as I bought them.

I have them along a wall which means they are in shade from 11am onwards.

The shade won't be the problem! I am wondering if the pots are big enough! Question: did the orange trees thrive and grow Ok for a while and is this a new development? And is the lemon tree in the same position?

They are all about the same size and in similar pots. I will take some pictures later on today and post them as I am sure that would be easier for you. Yes they did do alright when I first got them.

I appreciate your help so far.

Well if they were Ok when you first got the they should have carried on like that and become as good as the lemon unless something else has happened. I asked because often plants and trees that are bought go downhill for a while because of the shock of change of environment and replanting!

Just a thought that occurred to me - I had a kumquat tree back in the UK and in autumn and winter it dropped all its leaves and grew new ones in spring. I am just wondering if this is what is happening? I am no expert on citrus trees or their growing cycles but the kumquat is in that family and I have seen it lose its leaves. Plants and trees that are deciduous are responding now to the shorter daylight!

Here are pictures of my 2 Orange trees you can see the huge difference between them.

I can't work out how to add a picture to this text so I have added them both to my gallery.
