| Keep studying and practice speaking and listening in Spanish as much as you can (use videos/DVDs or Spanish people locally). Being an interpreter is a great job and if you are good I am sure you will find work here as so many people don't speak enough Spanish and need someone to go to the Doctor's/hospital/police station etc with them (I do it as a sideline). Besyatari (check spelling) on this forum is also a translator and could also give you some pointers. I have no proof of how good my Spanish is (ie no certificates, although I have a degree in translating and interpreting, French and German) but if you do well, people ask you for help again and again. |

Hi Kirsty and welcome to the forum...
There is an English college in Los Cristianos called Britannica. They do course of all sorts, although not a huge selection like in the UK.
I do not know of any others though.
As for spanish....well done you in trying to learn and prepare yourself before you move.. They do have private lessons over here which are reasonably priced.
Is you Boyfriend english or spanish?? _________________ Find out more at www.myspacetenerife.com

Welcome Kirsty,
Although I don't live in Tenerife, its great to see and hear of someone who is willing to learn the language whilst trying to move.
Good luck with the move and the language skills, IMHO a must if moving out.

Hi Kirsty,
Ive been here four months and the language is essential to get on! Advice is good here...listen ALOT and learn as quickly as you can and you will find your move here a lot smoother than if you come here cold like i did. Theres alot more spanish people in spain than you may think and to get a decent job you will need to know the language,
Hasta pronto! Im gonna take lessons here in the south, but i do know of a college in santa cruz which would provide for all your needs! |

Hi Kirsty... I'm called Kirsty too and I'm also from Manchester originally
If you have Spanish, even at a basic level, you will find it a lot easier to get many jobs. It will put a peg above a lot of the other employment seekers and you'll find the career prospects are better... i.e. you won't just be left with PR, bar and waitressing jobs. _________________ Buy & Sell your stuff online FREE - www.canarianexchange.com - eBay for the Canaries |
