That's a lot of questions. How old is your 'teenage' daughter?

I took some people down to the social office to get a number for her.

When we asked about the 9 year old daughter, they said she had to have her own number because her father did not live in Tenerife. So we got both of them signed up individually...

If you do a search in here you will find lots of information about the questions you have asked....even how to pay money in to your social number to make sure it is done....Once it is all sorted then you do not pay to see the doctor but yiou do still pay a percentage of prescription charges...

I will just add that when you go to the town hall for your empardronmiento (spelling lol)....as long as you have a copy of your passport and your daughters passport ..you both get put on a family one...

Hi Can you advise how to register with a doctor, To register with a doctor, go to your local Health Centre (where do you live?) and take your Social Security Number (this must be a valid one "dado de alta", ie you or your company registered it and have paid into it) and tell them you want to register. It will help if you speak Spanish.

I have my nie ans my social security number, no card as yet Im going back to see if I have one, I believe you do not get a Social Security card until you have registered with the Doctor, and then it can take over a year!

My employer was meant to be paying my soical, but i think thats going to be doubtfulm as I cant get her to pay the wages. Do you get a wage slip? If you are on a legal contract you should receive a wage slip where you can see what she is supposedly paying you and the Social Security. Take this to the Social Security office and check if you are registered properly (dado de alta) and that she is paying them.

I have a teenage daughter, do I need to get her an NIE number and an apardamento/ See Rob's answer, I believe if the child is under 18 you do not need an NIE for her but you do need to register (empadronar) her at the town hall. The "certificado de empadronamiento" is a certificate that you pay about 2 € for and you only need it when someone needs proof of where you live.

if you move do you have to tell them that youve moved. You are supposed to tell all official places when you move (town hall, social security etc).

and how do I register, where? at the town hall? Go up to your local town hall with passport, NIE, rental contract/property deeds and say you'd like to register (empadronar). Again it will help if you speak Spanish.

dose it cost to visit the doctor It costs nothing to visit the Scoial Security Doctor but as Stripps says you pay a minimal part for prescription medication if you are not retired or have a permanent illness or disability(then prescriptions are free).

and what happens if nothing has been paid into the social security and we need the hospital. This is why it would be a good idea to check at the Social Security office to see if you are properly registered with them and that she is paying them what she is supposed to. But I am sure that, as long as you have a social security number with you they will deal with you. You may get a bill afterwards if you or your employer has not been paying your contributions and you would have to sort that out afterwards.

Finally my husband has started a job but they sya hes self employed, how much will he need to pay to the social security and can he register us all under him He should find an accountant who will sort this out for him (we can recommend B&G who we use. He will come to your house to sort everything out - see contact here: http://www.sun4free.com/directory/tenerifebusiness437.htm). The Social Security contributions for a self-employed person vary but he can find out exactly at the Social Security office or ask the gestor. And yes, he can register his family under him.
Thanks

I hope this answers your questions. Next time please put them in list form with numbers Wink

PS I have answered the questions to the best of my knowledge, however, should anyone believe that any part of it is wrong, please post or PM me and I will edit the post.

Seriously. I allow Jenny to do things like this in company time as a service and hope that one day those people may remember the help they were given and help others.

However I do think that when people throw in a heap of questions, usually without the full facts which then means forum members wasting their time answering wrongly or having to post further clarifying questions, that at the very least a letter of thanks is posted. If the questions are asked because people can't be bothered to learn the language then why shouldn't they say thank you with a bunch of flowers or a bottle? This forum saves many people a lot of time, trouble and money.

PS. I had a letter from a couple wanting a lot of info so offered to meet them at their hotel and talk to them rather than write a long involved letter answering all their questions. They bought me a beer and when the waitress came to see if we wanted a top up they replied "no thanks, one is enough". Not bad for two hours of info! This from a couple contemplating spending 1,900,000 Euros
