Post subject: Hi, flying out 13th Feb - anybody out there?!! |
|
|
Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum and am looking to say Hi to anyone living in the South.
I am flying out on the 13th Feb on my own for 4 weeks and staying at Laguna Park 2 (not looking for reviews, seen enough on holiday truths!)
I am making the trip to find out if I would like to move out for a longer period and maybe even buy a place and stay permanantly. I have a sales background and my passion is photography so was wondering if anyone could tell me if there are any photography opportunities on the island.
Would also like to possibly make a couple of friends before I come out as don't want to be "Billy no mates" for too long!!

Photographic opportunities......... not a lot I would think..........Sales , there are opportunities if you are a properly trained salesman and not a retail 'customer server' _________________ .

Hi Mike and welcome to the forum.
Do you speak Spanish? I know there are some photo studios here in the south but you would definitely need to speak Spanish to be in with a chance of working with them. |

Hi Jenny,
thank you for your reply. I speak a bit of Spanish and that will be a priority for me. I think if I am to be serious about living out there and working in a job which has better pay I need to speak it. I quite like the idea of workimg for an Estate agents too but again need to speak Spanish. I will learn! _________________ Anyone know of any photography opportunities?? |

Its good your somewhat determined to Learn Spanish as it is, id say, Vital to learn as you wouldnt get somebody moving to the UK not knowing any English ect..
When you start learning Spanish, Good Luck! _________________ Whooo Tenerife in May!! |

Mike, I have worked in Estate Agents on the Island now for 7 yrs more or less and the majority of the sales staff in British run Estate Agents do not speak fluent or even a lot of Spanish most of the time, although there are exceptions, I am not saying that this is good as being in Admin I prefer the sales staff to be fluent or have a very good grasp of the lingo...
Things you need to learn:
1. Legal paper work required and procedure to purchase in Spain (completely different to UK)
2. Costs involved
3. General practice, like declared price, black money etc.
4. Learn locations, complexes.
Inevitably there are lots of Estate Agents on the Island and lots of sales people, if you want to be successful at this job you need to move a lot and make contacts with other agents share sales, capture property yourself, be on top of leads...and clients, as if your not fast enough in showing them the right property they will be caught by another Agent!
Legal paper work here can be hard at times and delay a sale as the sales person you wont get paid (normally) till the sale goes to notary this can range from a month to various months, and remember most sales staff are on only commission no basic wage so you need to have the back up of a good few euros to keep you going before you get paid for your first sale.
I could go on and on if you need more info ask me I will answer all your questions the best I can. |

Hi Sunny and Estate_girl,
thank you for your posts.
Estate_girl, I would like to discuss this in more detail. Can you tell me, can I get an NIE number while I am there for the 4 weeks or will I need to wait until I have a long term rental apartment? I will probably get Spanish lessons while I am there for the 4 weeks as I don't have Estate agent experience here ( I was a financial Advisor for a while though arranging mortgages and the appropriate insurances and I do have lots of sales experience) and I think speaking the language will show people I am serious. _________________ Anyone know of any photography opportunities?? |

hi xlisax, thank you for your post too!
Yes, you are right. I don't see the point in moving to a foreign country if you don't learn the lingo! _________________ Anyone know of any photography opportunities?? |

Mike,
If you apply for your NIE asap you may get it back before you go, all depend on how fast the national police are giving NIE number out and on what paperwork the require from you as rules can chop and change.
If you do a seach on this you may find out more.
And if you want more info on Estate Agents and a helping start feel free to ask away...or PM me if you like...
Best way to learn the lingo apart from lessons is to live in a Spanish town..go to local shops, bars, rest... watch Spanish tv...radio...although this isnt always easy. |
