i was wondering if anyone has their kids in britianna school in los crist,my daughter is 13 and i am worried she will not meet friends,she is confident and makes friends easily but you know what us parents are like,any good or bad comments on the school would be great,and if it took your kids long to meet new friends :D

Hi Bubbly,

it's ok you're not alone, I'm moving over in August, my daughter is 12 but will be 13 in March. I have had a look at the English school, Wingate, but she insists on going to a spanish school which isn't a bad thing.
I wouldn't worry too much { says me } lol I have spoken to so many lovely people on the forum also out in Tenerife who have children and have been in the same position and they assure me that she will be fine, it will be a little daunting at first maybe a few little tears but i have been told by a number of people that she will be well looked after and will meet lots of new friends.

I have started my daughter, with the rest of the family having private Spanish tuition lessons which she will no doubt, once mixing with other children, be speaking in no time at all.

As far as schools go there are so many to choose from which have been highly recommended , the one I am interested in is in Los Cristianos which a friend of my daughter goes to and is doing really well.

I do fully understand what your thoughts are and being worried about your daughter because it is a very awkward age for them moving to a new school but if your daughter mixes well I'm sure she will be fine....
thats what I keep telling myself.
Maybe if you are in Tenerife when I am the girls can meet up . There you go, they they have a friend already. ha ha

As Maxine says there are a lot of schools to choose from...but the english ones are more limited....wingate is good and so is the Britannia...

Mine are younger and go to spanish school and it is the best thing I have ever doen lol...they speak excellent spanish now..they adapt really quickly. My eldest is nearly 10...

There wiill be lots of english children about and also some spanish...get some lessons in now like Maxine...it will really help you .

Hi, Although I live in the UK I have lots of friends in Tenerife and nearly all of them tell me that the Spanish schools are very good and that the children who speak no spanish whatsoever soon pick the language up and are communicating in no time whatsoever with their new found friends at school.

Bubbly, is there a particular reason why you want to put your daughter in an English school? She will take a lot longer to learn Spanish than she would thrown in at the deep end in a Spanish school and, if you live in the south, there is a probability of at least one more English child in her class who could explain things at first. It will be harder for her in the begining but in the long run it will be a lot more useful.

the only reason i have is that if it doesnt work for us out there then she can slip back in over here with little or no disruption to her education as she is at her key stage 3 and it is an important time for her, if i had a crystal ball and knew it was going to work then it would definetly be a spanish school from word go!

i was thinking maybe i should research the spanish schools more your daughter is near the same age as mine and it would be good for her to learn spanish at a quicker pace,thanks for your advice and hey maybe they could end up being friends!

Hi again,

to be really honest my first option when i first was planning my move was no other option than an english school, but my daughter is insisting she wants to go to a spanish school,so i thought well thats where we are going let her mix with spanish children she will learn the language alot quicker. and i do understand what you mean about an important time but the spanish schools do ask for the reports from there previous school, also the difference is the GCSE exams they take in year eleven in the uk are obviously different in tenerife.
But if you have a bright child it wouldnt matter where they are they will do well.

You have to say to yourself .... it will work --- it will work ha ha
