Post Post subject: Shipping furniture over to tenerife. Reply with quote

Hello everyone, i am new here so be gentle with me. We are in the process of buying an apartment up in roque del conde in las americas. We are shipping the contents of a house we own in england to furnish the apartment. We only intend to use this apartment for roughly 2-3 months every winter. We have no intentions of renting it out at all. We own a hotel in blackpool and want to escape the english winters. The problem i have is, the removals men arrived today and are putting the stuff in storage until the place is ready, should be finished in september-october. I thought it was just a case of sending it and then unpacking it at the other end. Apparently i need a copy of the NIE number or copy passport. and it then goes on to say i need a copy of certificate of residence issued by the town hall, this is compulsory if NIE number cannot be supplied. Can i get these things from england, or do i have to come over for a few days to sort it all out?

Please help Gary.

Hi Gary and welcome to our forum.

You will need an NIE No for many things here in Tenerife so as a property owner it's essential. You don't have to come here if you have a friend or possibly the person who sold the apartment to you. They go to the police station in las americas and collect the forms (no they won't post you one) send it to you , you fill it in and then get them to present it to the police again. Sounds complicated? Get used to it that's the way Spain works!

are you talking about roque del conde in torviscas alto? That's not up in the mountains, it might be a degree or two cooler but not cold.

Is there 2 roque del condes? our one is the one on torviscas alto, the one you go through the yellow archway. Is that the same one as you?

Well we live in blackpool and have a hotel right on the front, we have always decribed the roque as up the mountain. It is just the complete opposite of were we live now. Wink The views are lovely and we are up a little hill.
Getting back to my 1st point rob, how long does it take to get these documents, and can i come over, fill them in then go back to blackpool and pick them up the next time i come over?

You can but they can take a long time especially now during the holiday season. I would strongly suggest that you get the agent who sold you the property to post the forms to you ASAP they really should have advised you on this at the time. If you don't speak Spanish get them to fill them in for you as well. Your furniture can't be shipped untill you have the paperwork or if it is it won't clear customs here and charges for storage in the docks are high.

It depends on the age of your set. If it's modern it will have an option in the menu to set to spanish. If not you'll get picture but not sound., will cost 40 to 50 E to change it.

Hi Helhod and welcome, If you've read my articles on living and working in tenerife on this forum then you'll know some of the problems. If your husband is a good tradesman then he'll get plenty of work, many people call themselves painters and decorators but are in fact untrained but cheap. It won't take long to build a reputation if he's good. A couple of adverts on our directory pages, one for plumbing and the other for decorating will help to find some business and it's not expensive. Bus driving is a closed shop. There is a demand for good quality cleaning ladies, you have an industrial estate nearby and the two golf courses, it might take a time to get enough work but quality cleaners are in short supply. Just an idea for you.
