In the Guardian today there was an article about the Santa Cruz Carnival and that the EU is making them stop partying at 10pm as no noise over 55dB is allowed after this time - I believe the partying used to go on all night.
Anyone else know about this? _________________ Anyone know of any photography opportunities?? |

This is the article:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,,2009877,00.html
What is with people these killjoys? As the article states, the carnaval has been running for over 200 years, and have survived war, pestilence, dodgy costumes etc. Millions of people descend on Santa Cruz over the carnaval period, but there's only a handful of nights when the noise really gets going throughout the city as a whole.
What next? Why don't we cancel New Years Eve in Trafalgar Square and Times Square, because of a couple of local 'aguafiestas' who can't be bothered to either grin and bear it, take part or else buy some earplugs. If they can't take the noise for a few days a year, then move. I personally don't like the smell of rotten fish, but if I choose to live next door to Billingsgate Market, I can hardly then file complaints about the smell !!
The ruling will probably get watered down or the carnaval will be granted an exemption, but even if its not, the ruling won't make a blind bit of difference. Its going to be damn noisy well into the early hours, exactly how it should be!
BRING IT ON...... ARRRRRRRRIBA !!! _________________ My Paranoia-Management Therapy is going great! Now they're only watching me half the time.... |

NO it is true.....
the residents of Santa cruz put in a complaint about the noise caused by the carnival.....they went to court and won..
they have to be quiet after 10pm NUT peopel are still heading up there and will make as much noise as they like.......I spoke to some of my spanish friends who heard about this in the local spanish press...they were saying that people were really angry that the judge has tried to stop this....saying he probably lives there himself....
they also said that if people don't like it then they should not live in that area...lol
I read about it in the local newspaper.....it is no hoax.....it is true....me and my friends were laughing about it yesterday _________________ Find out more at www.myspacetenerife.com

OK funky - well said - so lets all try your re-fried beans, go to Santa Cruz Carnival and see if we get arrested after 10pm for the unavoidable rumblings....
But really - either everyone moved there after the carnival was born or there are some residents well into their third century - I'd like to know their secret to such a long life and i bet it's not re-fried beans.. _________________ Anyone know of any photography opportunities?? |

and hopefully they will fail again.
Maybe a should move to Rio, complain about the noise level and see if the biggest carnival in the world is cancelled.

CANARIAS24HORAS.COM puede adelantar que el juez acaba de levantar la suspensión cautelar por la que se prohibían los carnavales nocturnos en Santa Cruz de Tenerife,
canarias 24 can tell you that the judge lifts the suspension of the ban of the night carnivals in santa cruz.....

There we go, a victory for common sense.
Or perhaps the Judge just thought he would do the Canarian authorities a favour and save them from the embarrassment of trying to police a million drunken revellers fully intent on ignoring the authorities and on making just as much noise as they did last year...?
Or maybe the council could follow Tony Blair's example and have 'Community Support Officers' grab anyone who farts too loud and frogmarch them to the nearest cashpoint to make a donation to help the UK Government pay for all the asylum seekers and fraudulent disability claims... _________________ My Paranoia-Management Therapy is going great! You disappoint me funky. I thought that you were too smart to to be taken in by everything that you read in The Daily Malice. Earlier in this thread rob gave good advice. Actually seagull........
a) it was The Sun that I saw mocking Community Support Officers (and quite rightly so, as I know one, and he readily admits that he is essentially powerless to stop real crime, and that his job is just an excuse to avoid the cost of hiring and training real police officers)
b) As far as I recall, every single newspaper, news channel and current affairs programme mocked the idea of on the spot fines for louts. Maybe they're all wrong though.....?
c) I'm afraid that my hatred of asylum seekers (that's the 95% who are looking for easy street, and not the 5% who are genuinely running away from poverty and oppression) was established through bitter personal experience. Cynical? Maybe..... Accurate? Certainly.
d) and don't even get me started on fraudulent disability claims....
As for the Daily Malice, a bunch of bitter and twisted busybodies they might be, but at least they have the gumption to say it like it is and stand up to the decadence and corruption that is Britain today. If the government had paid heed to their content over the past 10 years, then this forum probably wouldn't exist, as there would be far fewer Brits desperate to get the hell out of the UK... _________________ My Paranoia-Management Therapy is going great!
