Post Post subject: Wage Reply with quote

Hey all, i'm looking to move out here to live with some of my family that are out here, but i'm having trouble finding information on wages.

So, cheeky question i know, but could you tell me what you do and how much you get paid? Feel free to answer in a PM or email if you don't want it making public, but i'm just after some info really. Do certain industries pay more/more in demand out here? Anything that's indesperate supply all the time?

Hi Nick, I think that you're expecting rather a lot. First question...How much do you earn? Not hello, how are you even! If your family live here they can tell you. You'll also find info if you use the search facility above.

There are hundreds of people trying to figure out what is in demand so they can make a good living. I think its safe to say all areas have been covered and competition is high.

As for pm'ing you my salary, you are joking yes?

As Rob said use the search facility and if I remember correctly the average wage is about 600 euros per month here in Tenerife. But you can double check that using the search facility.

Of course you can earn more than this, sales is a good way to do it if you have the gift of the gap and are a people person.

Let us know what you cannot find and we will try to help more.

Hi Nick.

Im afraid Im going to have to agree with the others on this one.
Not many people are going to start throwing their salary figures about, its not the sort of thing you do anyway, let alone to a perfect stranger.
Sorry if that came across as rude, but do you see my point?

Also the wage varies massively according to the job...obviously.
If you are a bar person, shot person etc, you are unlikely to get as much as, say, a mechanic, pc repairman etc.

Do you have any idea on what you want to do? Any qualifications, experience, some sort of direction? There are any number of jobs on the island, but you need to narrow it down a bit...

As has been suggested, use the search facility, put together some sort of cv with what you can/cant do ect then you are more likely to find useful info.

Lol, Its like me at the mo. Im buying a new car, but if I put up a post saying "I want a new car, tell me what I can get" it would be a bit hard. Someone might suggest a Porscgh or a mercs (ey rob, lol ). Both of which are way ou of my league.

Have a look on oasis fm;s website too as jobs are added daily. It might give you an idea of the sort of things on offer

My main piece of advice...do LOTS more research, its a big step, people do it all the time, but only some of them last, the ones who have done their homework.

Good luck Very Happy

Luckily for them they're well off enough to not have too, i'd like to know so that i know how much to bring with me really, and what skills to learn(if any specific ones are needed to help improve my job range) before i come.

I earn £14k, and don't understand why you're all so secretive, it's not like i know any of you and it'll reflect on you. If you're embarrased about it or whatever, i did say i'd appreciate a PM or an email.

Cheers for the average Karl, but that info's already floating around on the net. It was wages for specific industries i was after really, as opposed to averages.

Appollo, i've been watching oasis Fm job lists but they never seem to give salaries, which i've got to say suprises me. Can't find salary details anywhere on the net for canarian jobs Sad

Anyway, shame none of you were willing to answer my question for whatever reason, no hard feelings. I'm just wanting to be prepared before i get out there, which is the sensible thing to do.

Nick I think you have misunderstood and taken it a little too much to heart.

Its not that we are being secretive, its just not the sort of thing people discuss, Im sorry ify ou dont see it that way.

I know that oasis fm doesnt advertise salaries, but I thought if you gave the jobs a ring to find out a little and se what the pay is, thats what I would do anyway.
You tend to get things like:
chef
marketting
bar work
telesales
rep

That sort of thing. If you phoned them all up and enquired a little bit then you would have your mean.

You say you need to know what skills to learn, but have you got any already?
If you are just waiting to find out what to train in you will be waiting a long time to move out here wont you??

Again, good luck.

p,s people have asked on here i the past about wages and have ben answered accordingly, if you use the search you will find all these pages and get a much broader idea.

Indeed Apollo..

We are notbeing evasive on purpose....BUT..we are a little community and when a stranger comes in with no introduction and asks outwardly what we all earn ,.....It is a bit strange.

Also I can add that the basic wage here is about half the UK...

USING THE SEARCH FACILITY will give you a better idea as this has been discussed a few times...

Chill out and say Hello.

Firstly, Hello...

Personally, i wouldnt feel comfortable telling a stranger my salary.. As it is a personal thing, might not seem it to you but it somewhat is!

Its quite obvious what pay is like in Tenerife..

Bar/Pr work is popular so therefore the pay isnt going to be that great and as its so easily to recruit british workers for this job then why do they need to pay alot? Whereas if your qualified in say, plumbing ect and are in demand then you will be on a good wage.

You dont say what you'd like to do, what your qualified in or what you'd like to get qualified in. Maybe if you were to say what you'd like to do then somebody on here could give an adverage wage. Its hard to say who pays what as every firm has a different pay.

We are a friendly bunch really, but do get thrown off when newbies throw questions at us without a welcoming hello.. And as i said, asking what people earn in Tenerife is a bit personal.

What are you doing in the UK at the moment? Could it be continued in Tenerife? Remember, also, that Tenerife is cheaper than the UK so your wage might not be as good as in the UK.

Do you speak Spanish? Or any other languages? This is a huge advantage and well worth learning (at least Spanish). So many Brits here don't speak any other languages so in any job interview (other than bar/waitressing in British establishments) you are likely to be ahead of others who don't.

Builders can earn from 1500€ to 3/4.000€ depending on what they do and how long they have been building.
Sales people will earn commission that differs in each company - you may earn a basis (although this is unlikely).

Please tell us what skills you already have so we can help you better.
