Thanks Ladies,
I'm currently an Admin, but working part-time so i have the oppurtunity to go back to college here before i aim to move out to tenerife.
Hence, me wondering if anything was in dire need, there's no point me going off and learning plumbing and spanish, if the countries in dire need of people to translate between spanish and polish, or qualified chefs
I'm going to take a long shot, and guess that admin isn't particularly well paid or in huge demand, so just wondering if anything does get paid a lot that it'd be worth me learning (that builder wage looks v. v. nice!)
I do realise the wages are all comparitive etc, but i've researched into rental & mortgage costs, and the average cost of things on the street, and would like to be setup in the best possible way for when i come out _________________ My Facebook |

The top builders money would only be for a well qualified, experienced builder running his own company. A builders labourer will get about 40 Euros per day.
Your most important skill would be languages especially Spanish. Top salaries for non self employed are as in many countries, Lawyers, doctors, accountants etc.
A good experienced sales person will also earn good money but contrary to most opinions becoming a successful salesman is very hard work. _________________ .

I agree with the others, I think this question is rather cheeky, particularly from a newbie to the forum. Its extremely bad manners to ask people what they earn in any country, and even more so in Spain.
No offence Nick, but it seems like you've thrown down a sweeping question without having really done any homework yourself (other than perhaps a 5 minute google search). You certainly didn't do a search on this forum, as your question has been answered indirectly on numerous occasions before.
In any event, asking people what they earn is ok for a market researcher, but its not going to help you find a job. The way you phrased your replies suggests that you don't have direct experience in anything that would be of use to Tenerife employers, and your current stated UK salary suggests that you are young and at the beginning of your career/newly qualified or that you are in a relatively unskilled position (no offence intended), so unless you speak about 3 or 4 languages, you can count yourself at the back of a long line of similarly qualified people who have come to Tenerife on the fly hoping that something will turn up.
You also say that your family living in Tenerife are lucky enough not to have to work. Has that been the case ever since they first arrived? Have they had absolutely no experience of the island that would enable them to answer your questions? Have they no neighbours /friends/acquaintances/ex-colleagues/accountants/advisers etc who they can call on to either give them some employment information or who can give you the inside track on any work? If they are as wealthy as you imply, can they not assist you financially in the short term until you settle in and find better work without the time pressure? How long are you planning to stay on the island and what type of work are you physically or mentally geared to coping with?
Sorry if that's all a bit blunt, but without doing that sort of homework, any questions you ask are little more than statistical market research, and I know what I say to those people when they try to waste my time on the high street... _________________ My Paranoia-Management Therapy is going great! Excellant job at writing many lines of text without actually saying anything that hasn't already been said.
Thanks to the person who PM'd me, with actual decent information _________________ My Facebook |

Excellent post Funky. All relevant and and some good analogies to back up your points. The use of an analogy often gets lost on people |

Thanks Dave.
And don't worry Nick, when it comes to asking or answering things that have been raised 100 times before, I'm obviously in good company... _________________ My Paranoia-Management Therapy is going great! Now they're only watching me half the time.... |

Don't worry too much about finding work Nick. With your winning personality, everyone will be falling over themselves to offer you a job... _________________ My Paranoia-Management Therapy is going great! Now they're only watching me half the time.... |

can we please have a forum where people don't sl*g each other off...
I don't see any problem in someone asking me how much i earn in a Foreign Country... I think it's a reasonable question, that can either be answered or ignored... |

Agreed Tony, we all have different standards of good manners and we are allowed to disagree but let's keep the personal comments to a minimum, unless of course those personal comments are praise! _________________ .
