Resurrecting an old thread but I was surprised from previous threads that there only appears to be one free hotspot on the island. Shouldn't be that surprised i suppose because Rob has mentioned the lack of interest in all things internet in the local business community.

Good news for those wishing to use this type of facility is that a company called free-hotspot.com has just issued a licence to operate in Tenerife which will result in them springing up fairly quickly over the next 6 months or so

They have a website www.free-hotspot.com which gives details of all their sites so the new ones will be added as they go live

The one in Subway is already listed

Thanks Angimac, I will have a look but the Subway one is not free.

You need to spend some money to log onto their wireless network.

Just had a look and unless it changed that is out of order. How can you advertise on a site named FREE hot spots.

I will pop into Subway and check it out next time I am there.

Very useful though, its now in my favorites.

Do they issue a scratchard or ticket with the wifi key after you have bought a coffee

What they do is once you have bought a coffee or whatever the wireless key password is printed on your receipt.

In a year the password has never changed but I always buy a coffee cos I think its a bit cheeky to sit outside on a bench in the square and log on.

But you can do if you want.

They are playing a bit on the word FREE - they could argue that the access is free I suppose. And I suppose it stops people sitting a few yard away using it as you said.

They will get revenue from the provider if they are running local adverts (run for 30 seconds when you log on)but maybe they have not got any advertisers yet

It will certainly p off the local adsl providers as it has done in the UK

Hi Angimac - thanks for this thread very interesting and hopefully good news for the future.
We think there must be a Hotspot at Reina Sofia Airport, when we were there a few weeks ago many people were using wireless laptops and answering emails etc.
