I know of one in San Isidro on the main road through it and others in Santa Cruz and La Laguna but don't know the addresses.
I think second hand gear here can offer some real bargains because a lot of musicians give up and are in need of money. There are often offers in the classified sections of papers here and elsewhere. _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

Hi there,
As a native, local musician I would recommend Musicanarias, although not their shop in the south El Camison but the big one (biggest on Tenerife) in Los Majuelos (La Laguna). I am afraid most of the shops mentioned by Bard aren't really worth looking at (some are not even 'music shops'). Another "good" one is Picholi (Santa Cruz). If you are not ready to travel north then you are stuck with Musical Ruben and I wish you luck...
In any case, do not expect a great deal from any of them, Tenerife people have yet to understand what the words 'customer service', actually mean; and the prices are ridiculous. They still think they can monopolize the island's market and take advantage of our natural isolation by controlling the imports... So I encourage you to join the growing community of local musicians who are ordering their stuff via the internet, unless some foreign person (german?) with an eye for business (it doesn't take a scientist...) decides to open a decent music shop in the much needed South.
Good luck and hopefully you're not a guitarist in need of strings! _________________ Niin on pitkät miun pihani

Hey Boab,
As I hinted on my previous post, do not rely on these Canarian music shops. Chances are they won't have the strings you need, if they actually know (or care) what strings you're asking for...
I've been getting mine from www.stringcatalog.net ;best price, variety and service I've found.
If you play acoustic, make sure you check out the EXP coated strings by Daddario, they really last longer! I have never seen them on the local shop's shelves, yet they are the strings all Ovation guitars are shipped with...
Cheers!

I too got fed up with the constant empty promises from local music shops, Musicanarias are completely uselsss, they had a guitar of mine in their workshop for 7 months for a re fret and did buggar to it, so I took it off them.
Musical Ruben is a weird one, I get on really well with all the staff but to be honest they don't deliver what they say they will, if they do it's usually months later after many a phone call reminding them!
I use www.thomann.de for all my equiptment, I've had drum parts off them, guitar parts, pedals, mics, the lot. can't fault them for price or service - very fast delivery.
For repairs to my guitars I would definitely recomend Ray at Cactus Music in Torviscas, he also does recording. Top bloke.
For Strings, I've used www.stringbusters.com .
But yea, someone needs to open a music shop round here! |
