I had been promising my cats I'd go out and get them some food and get some more for myself so I just got the bus into town to catch the Hiperdino supermarket before closing time. I had wondred why the one here was closed but put it down to one of those things - sometimes they do close with no warning!

When I got to Icod I saw that everything except bars were closed and realised it was another holiday but what holiday you have midweek mid-August I have no idea about! Whatever it is it cost me 1.70 bus fares and and over an hour of wasted time! And the cats will have to make do with the dry food they are bored with! Now what can I have?

A beautiful summers evening looking at the scenery on the bus journey..... and a nice early night after watching the sun go down.. we ca not do that in Burnley ! Shocked

Very true but I've seen this bus route so many times, and many on foot, that it no longer has me interested!

Thanks for the info, Karl! Well, I just thought it was a normal day! This happens to me far too often and I get caught out cos I don't know when these religious festival days fall!

Sorry to be a know it all, but being a good catholic girl I can confirm that today is a holy day of obligation and is the Assumption, and a bank holiday here.

At the end of the year, ask your bank for a calendar (FOC), they mark all the Spanish fiesta days for you.

bard why dont you do a search somewhere (or ask) and find out all the religous days bank hols etc... and write them all on your calender?

Well, I know nothing of Assumption days although I had ASSUMED it was just an ordinary day and so had my cats - we were all wrong and that will teach me not to assume such things!

This is a disadvantage of living up here in the north I admit - they close everything on these religious days whereas down south places stay open!

Hi Bard, hope I have got this right sure someone will let me know if I haven't. Next Bank Holidays are:-

Friday 12 October - National Spanish Holiday
Thursday 1 November - All Saints Day
Thursday 6 December - Constitution ?
