Post subject: 1 week in and all's well... |
|
|
Been here just over a week now. Thankfully the car made it without any problems at all.
And what of the dog? Well he seems unaffected by the whole thing.
Thanks to all who helped me and Judith when I was 'missing'.
So how's the Spanish admin nightmare for a newcomer?
First stop was Tuesday morning to queue for my NIE. Got there at 7.30am and got number 21. Was told to return at 11.15 so off for some breakfast. Back to police station and had the form processed by 11.30
Back to the police station on Monday to collect it. Got there at 1pm, queued at the information desk for about 20mins and had my NIE.
Next challenge was a bank account. We all know how it is in the UK where they want a full life story, credit checks etc. etc.
Went into Caja Canarias with my passport and NIE. Handed over my €50 minimum starting balance and left with a bank account and internet banking codes. Need to go back next week for my debit card.
Finding an apartment seems to be the biggest problem. Estate Agent says "yes, we've got loads of suitable properties", I say "we have a dog", they say "oh, we maybe, possibly, might have 1 you can look at"
So that's all for now. More to follow as it happens.

Thanks for the posting Sam, its very handy to know how the current situation is there with NIE etc etc.... as we're coming out in 3wks time & have to do all the same as you have... Many on here have been very helpful with their knowledge of what to do etc ... we know the waiting periods seem to vary depending on busy times & long queues & if youre 1 of the lucky 50 a day lol. Its great you got it back in a week too!!!
We've also been looking at Caja Canarias too for banking & we also have to register with the Town Hall as we'll need a form to get our stuff through customs at the port.
We've also gotta look at Long Term rentals & we have a cat!! Alot of people have said it seems harder to get an apartment with a Dog tho, maybe they know that Cats just sleep all day & Dogs just run about chewing everything!!! lol
Have you checked all the local adverts in all the free papers?? What areas are you looking/hoping for?
Hope you find somewhere soon! Let us all know how you get on.... _________________ RICH & KAZ |

Apparently, the dog issue is more of a noise problem than furniture destruction. A noisy dog scares of existing clients from renewing and puts off potential clients. Something we hadn't even thought about (our dog isn't noisy)
We are looking for somewhere between Los Galletas and Los Abrigos.

Lovely dog, he is a cutey.
That never occurred to me until we had our new puppy about renting. If we have to move it could be a nightmare.
Thanks for the post Samk it is very useful. _________________ Need a cleaner in South Tenerife ? Cleaning just got better... www.maid4tenerife.com

What sort of place are you looking for Sam? 2/3 bedrooms? I will have a chat with a few mums in Las Galletas and see if they know of any. It is often a case here of who you know, not what you know.
I know quite a few people who have had problems finding a place to rent with a dog but they all found somewhere eventually. _________________ Who am I? Find out more here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=17

Thats really made me worry about our dog Tipsy now, we aren't going to have such a location specification or not at least till we get over and do more research... what if we didn't tell them we had a dog and just happened to find one when we were moved in
Does anyone know the area near the hyper dino, near the apollo centre, how much a month are you looking in that area or a bit further up as if you are going to Parque de las aguias? 1 or 2 bed?

If you mean Hiperdino, that's Los Cristianos so similar prices to Las Americas. Chayofa (up the hill a little) is also quite expensive.
Don't risk not telling an owner you have a dog as you could get thrown out as it is specified in many rental contracts that animals are not allowed. _________________ Who am I? Find out more here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=17

oh well best not do that then...... poor Tipsy she is such a good little girl too !
Yeah thats where I meant Jenny, like it up that way thought it would be similar prices....
We used to ahve friends in Castle Harbour which were quite reasonably priced but never went up to see them... we are staying at Victoria Court 2 in March and stayed at Aguamar in Jan which was nice like the lovely tea rooms up there ha ha
Can't wait to get out there again I am having withdrawal symptoms ! _________________ www.secretgardenholistics.com
