yeah i had a bit of trouble with an eating disorder a few years ago and was eventually sent to see a hypnotherapist (amongst others). worked really well. seriously. i was more than a little sceptical but it definately helped. not the be all and end all- but i would def recommend trying it. x

Well done, go for it Sara. Most 'doctors' are brainwashed, middle class, pill pushers touting the myth that only they can possibly know all the answers when in fact they're tools of the pharmacy companies.

A doctor takes his very complex, expensive car to the garage and wants it's intermittent problem fixed and does not expect to pay the bill until it's cured. Imagine his reaction if the mechanic said "try this and if it doesn't work, come back and see me in two weeks"!

Modern chemical 'medicine' has been around for a hundred years or so. Other 'alternative' treatments have been around for thousands!

Let us know how it goes and if he gets you to stand up and do a silly dance or bark like a dog!!!

Seriously though, not ever used hypnotherapy but if it can make your mind believe you can and will sleep, then I believe it will work.

The brain is a very clever instrument and needs to be used well. Most of us don't know how to use it to it's full advantage and this is why we all have so many problems.

I will be very interested to hear about it Sara.

Rob is so correct, alternative therapy is the way forward do we aren't lining the pockets of the doctors fave chemical company due to the best funding they provide the nhs to keep their wages so high.

Have you tried the oils in baths, burners on your pillow?

Have you tried indian head massage, well know for helping insomnia !!!

Other than that keep us up to date on it chick..... get an indian head booked look on the FHT website for a 'proper' holistic therapist !

ha ha that is my only worry with hypno therapy, I feel for you hun there is nothing worse I had it last year and not even two bottles of wine would make me sleep Shocked

Indian Head is extremely good though if you can fit one in weekly, if only you lived nearer I would help you hun...it's rather frustrating !

What about meditation before bed, or yoga ? You need to make sure you have peace and quite so I presume with kids that is hard, you could try it while they were at school, you can buy dvds which help.

My favourite one is imagining a relaxing beach scene , you have to imagine being there and then build on your imagination with scent, touch, sounds etc

Another basic one to start with is a breathing one, imagine you are breathing out dark, thick clouds, this represent everything that is on your mind, all your negative energy, and then with every breath in imagine breathing in pure white air, clean, light, cool white air, this represents filling your body with positive, clean fresh energy. Continue the breathing techniques for aslong as you feel comfortable.

You need to make sure that you are in peace and quiet as meditating can send you into a deep state of relaxation which is what your mind is lacking at the moment which is why you are stuggling to sleep. You have to bring yourself round slowly, do not stand up quickly or be interrupted. And make sure you have a glass of water afterwards.

It takes a while to get used to meditation and may feel strange but once you get into it, it is very good for you and you will start to remember how to relax again and your body will start to repair itself.

Have a read on net about it on net I found this link

http://www.how-to-meditate.org/

you can buy dvds too.

I have been told (by an extremely well informed source) that Hypnotherapy is effective for a lot of conditions (the mind is more powerful than we often realise). The main drawback is that it is rarely permanent, and the mind can easily slip back into its original pattern.

A classic example is smoking. Your body has a 'chemical' addiction to nicotine, and no amount of hypnosis can get rid of that. The key here is to use hypnosis to strengthen one's willpower (again, part of a powerful mind) to keep you strong enough to resist the cravings whilst your body slowly deals with the cold turkey and overcomes the chemical addiction. They often do this by making you associate smoking with something you don't like etc. Most people could quite easily do this themselves, but they don't have the motivation or the discipline (as its basically like meditation).

However, unless you are particularly disciplined and strong willed, within a matter of days or weeks, your mind will slip back into the same old pattern and out come the oilies again.

So basically hypnosis is telling your mind what you could easily have told it by yourself. Its a well known fact that you will NEVER do anything under hypnosis that you seriously wouldn't want to do whilst fully conscious (e.g. hurt yourself), so a lot of the stuff you see on tv is utter nonsense.

So just like with those stupid 'motivational thinking' and life coaching classes, save yourself the €1.000, just look in the mirror and tell yourself how amazing you are for free ........ Very Happy

Regarding modern medicine, I totally agree that today's doctors are often little more than brainwashed pillpushers. However, I think its a little bit more complicated than us simply all reverting back to alternative medicines.

Firstly, look at the development of public health over the past 200 years, particularly advances in drug development, clinical tools and surgical technique. I couldn't even begin to estimate how many lifes are saved or improved each year as a direct result of western modern medicine, a lot of which drugs play a very important part of.

No amount of hearts or hips or kidneys are going to replace themselves by 'using the force' or eating powdered rhino-droppings. These very operations are only made possible by advances in anaesthetic drugs. No alternative medicine can provide an alternative to kidney dialysis, or cure malaria etc. Western medicine is in fact the only way of fighting against natural selection, whereby a certain percentage of animals on the planet are invariably going to die from some nasty disease, because that's all part of nature's balance, otherwise malaria, cholera, typhoid and ebola etc wouldn't exist in the first place.

I also firmly believe that no alternative medicine is actually effective in destroying a cancer tumour once it has set in (slowing its growth perhaps, but not actually killing or removing it). My dad tried every form of alternative medicine known to man, but he still died from cancer.

The bottom line is that certain drugs, surgery and other western medical techniques will always play a key part in our health. To turn away from them is to revert back to the dark ages.

However, I agree that the casual use of drugs should be stamped out for day to day use, when the patient has a condition that will either treat itself in time, or for which there are other potentially effective alternative remedies. For instance, NOBODY should take Paracetamol simply because they have a bit of a headache. The headache is your body telling you something about your health or your lifestyle. Listen to it and change whatever it is. Don't simply pop a pill to mask the condition. Instead, try to work out why you have the headache (usually dehydration, stress, tiredness, bad posture, take your pick) and go change things. But that would actually require doctors to get off their backsides and do some real diagnosis and lifestyle advice, whereas its simpler to throw a pill at you and get you out the door within the allocated 7 minute NHS slot.

In my view, Heart diseases, kidney and liver problems, cancers, high blood pressure, birth defects could all be signifantly reduced by changes in lifestyle, diet and removing chemicals and pollutants from our food, toiletries, cleaning products and by banning all diesel vehicles. Utilising nature's own products plays a large part in this.

But no, that might take years of education, sacrifice, hard work and a load of unhappy fatcats and shareholders, so lets just throw a load of expensive and profitable drugs at the 'sheeple' (lol great word Bard) and lets hope the problem just goes away.

Sad
