Hola !
Question.... is it worthwhile bringing with you furniture....
The reason we ask this is because if we take a long term rental they are usually furnished... what would we do with our things?
Can you ask for the owner to take some of their things out ?
How easy is it to get long term rentals unfurnished ?
If it is unfurnished may we have more possibility to them allowing our lovely little lady Tipsy to reside with us ?
We are thinking of only probably bringing our own bed and a few other bits and bats like fridge freezer (?), washmachine (?) so I it would possibly be just a case of asking them to take away the bed they have in there already? Or should we just sell it and buy a new one if we want to when we are over ?! Oh there is so much to think about...
Like how on earth am I going to get all my stuff over ...my massage couch, my george foreman... it is huge ! Blender, toster, kettle, pots, pans etc etc etc
When we moved over 1st time we sold everything we owned and moved over with just cases....... it didn't feel right at all so do not want to start from scratch again!
Any way I will love ya and leave ya as I am off to cook a lovely sweet chilli chicken stir fry for tea !

It's very rare to get unfurnished long term rentals. You can ask owners to remove some furniture but it's highly unlikely that they will. Fridge freezer washing machine etc I wouldn't bother with too much hassle. what happens when you need parts/repairs? _________________ .

But how are you going to get the other stuff over? Like the massage couch? If you are going to get a container shipped over (or you can have part of a container but then sometimes it is complicated as they will not release it until everyone has all the correct paperwork sorted this end!!) then you could also bring other special items that you are really attached to (no, I don't mean Chris!!)
If you only really need a few items (that you know you won't be able to get over here) then it may be worth finding out how much it costs to send them over. _________________ Who am I? Find out more here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=17

With the hassle factor and cost of shipping, you'll probably find it almost as cheap to avoid the shipping cost and simply sell them in UK and then buy replacement items in Tenerife. And if you are brutally honest, how many of the items do you actually use on a daily/weekly/monthly basis? I bought a George Foreman Grill once. It collected dust better than any other item in my house.... _________________ My Paranoia-Management Therapy is going great! Now they're only watching me half the time.... |

Is a massage couch very different from a good quality portable massage table? I know someone who has one for sale. _________________ .

My massage couch is portable..... but is still big !
I use my george almost all the time ! It is great !
There are things we want to bring with us but nothing to justify a container I dont think, will the airlines take extra boxes if we pay ?
Thanks for your help Lea x _________________ www.secretgardenholistics.com

We shipped over 31 boxes in total Leanne so we did not have a lot at all but we thought we would bring them as been in a new country and no transport it would be very hard to find things.
We shipped over on a part container and it took 10 weeks to arrive, 3 weeks later than they told us but in all honesty it wasn't the shipping companies fault.
We paid £1800 for our service door to door and i dont mind telling you if it gives you an idea of whether what you have will be worth shipping over.

For what we had box wise they worked it out on a cubicm2 it was the cheapest quote we had, as the norm was about £3000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it really worth it Lea for that amount?
Did they quote you that just for the shipping as ther is insurance involved as well and if they are packing it or you?

Youre only gonna take '5' BOXES Lea?.... i dont believe that any WOMAN who owns SHOES & MAKE-UP & .....SHOES!..... & is moving to another country will only have 5 boxes & thats including Chris's stuff too?!!! lol...maybe you should add 2 then times by 4.... is more realistic number...believe me 'im married too!!!' lol
we've got most of our stuff packed already as we previously had it all in storage in London, so we've added a few more bits n' pieces to it & gone through it all & then got rid of some stuff at the car boots (ohh JOY! )
We've had a few quotes from some companies & the best we've to ship out (27boxes-ish?!) @100cf is £450 but thats only to Santa Cruz port, then via a company thats listed on here their gonna take it to do the customs part & they quoted @£260... but we're lucky we're packing it ourselves or like Fiona says once they start to add the insurance for packing it in your house etc etc ... the prices start to escalate!
At least we dont need it all straight away if it takes awhile (dont know about 10wks tho Fiona!! ) as like previously said most places are furnished already... which is a help, !
Ive gotta phone them all tomorrow & book it all, will let you know if they move the goalpost on price!!! lol .........they better NOT! _________________ RICH & KAZ |

I don't know how much it is to post boxes but it is worth finding out the price for that too if you don't have many.
Have a look at Surface mail prices here:
