A new restaurant has opened up on San Blast. You pay 2 € for your plate and 2€ for your glass then eat and drink the night away.
At the end, you pay what YOU think the meal and drinks were worth.
I'm going to try it tonight.
Has anyone else been? _________________ Treble99

Its called La Strada.
It appears to do all sorts of pasta, pizzas etc. It seems to an Italian type place.
Got to be worth a go! _________________ Treble99

I cannot understand how they are going to stay in business they must have no idea of there cash flow or forecast.
What did you pay Trebs and what did you have?

Well, last night me, Mrs Treb, Baby Treb, her friend and Sir Old Golfer tried this place. I have to say I was impressed, very impressed.
The restaurant is nicely set out and very atmospheric, with an open kitchen, old chianti bottles hanging from the ceiling and a very Italian theme.
You arrive and a waitress explains how it works. You pay upfront for your plate 2€ and your glass 2€. You can try various wines (about 20 different white and rose and 20 or so reds). The waitress takes you through the wine tasting, nice touch!. You can also order soft drinks and beer all included in the "pay what you want" deal. Spirits and Brandy's are chargeable.
Once you have chosen your preferred wine, you can order a bottle or just keep getting up and helping yourself from the tasting table.
You then choose from the menu. If you fancy a pizza, you go to the kitchen counter and talk to the chef who makes up your pizza in front of you.
On the menu there are starters, mains and deserts.
The starters are things like pizza garlic bread, mozzarella tomato and basil, salads and soups.
The mains are, pizza´s, pastas, pork loin, steaks and lamb etc.
Deserts are ice cream, pasta with chili chocolate, apple pie and ice cream etc.
Our starters were, me, Mrs Treb and OG minestrone soup and the girls shared a pizza garlic bread. The pizza garlic bread was the size of a large pizza. The garlic bread was so nice that OG ordered another one. The soup was also so good. It was packed with chunky fresh veg.
For mains we had, me and OG, lamb with fresh green beans in a honey mint gravy, and Mrs treb and the girls had penne pasta bolognese. The lamb was really, really good. OG and I were very impressed. As for the pasta well, Mrs Treb and the girls all thought it was really nice. It takes a lot to please Mrs Treb but she was impressed. Even OG finished off Baby Trebs pasta and said how good it was.
For desert, OG had ice cream covered in liquor, me and Mrs Treb had apple pie with ice cream and Baby Treb had the pasta with chili chocolate sauce. The apple pie was dry to be honest and served cold, the ice cream covered in liquor was well, just that, and the chili chocolate pasta was an acquired taste.
When you are finished, you put your money in a box on the counter. There are 2 boxes, one for the food and one for tips. The staff dont even see what your putting in.
The only dissapointment, amazingly, was the service. It was slow. The waitreses were always smiling and courteous however we found ourselves waiting quite some time between courses.
All in all, I would reccomend the place. The food is very good, the ambience also and the service, albeit a tad slow, is always with a smile.
We will be dining there again on Saturday.
As for the cost, we gave 70€. This worked out at 14€ per head, equivalent to 10 gbp. The girls saw me putting the money in the boxes and they were really appreciative and kept saying thank you, thank you. So from this I gather 14€ per head is a fair price to pay.
If the mods let me, I will post the number for the place on this thread. I dont want to tread on any forum sponsors toes.
Give it a go chaps _________________ Treble99

| My Aunt is coming out tomorrow and they're staying in Golf del Sur. As I'm going over there tomorrow evening hopefully they'll take me out there for a meal - and as my Uncle is a bit of a cheap-skate, this sounds perfect! |
