I've already got my NIE. I hear the I need to go somewhere in Cristianos to get a social number. Anyone know exactly where it is and what identification/paperwork i'll need?

It is in the Valdes centre, LC, opposite the bus station on the far side ground floor. Don't do as we did when we first arrived and walk into the bank and ask if was the social office....that was embarrasing.

From memory take your NIE, passport and your Certificate of Empadronamiento (proof of where you live from your local town hall)

Take a good book to read !!!!

You will get a social number but of course it cannot be used until it is activated by you paying into the system when you start working.

If you get a legal job their accountant normally sorts it all out for you. If you don't, you are not covered so I don't see the point getting a number.

I think it is better to have the number before the job...as some places take ages to get it sorted for you otherwise....

My sister had to wait for 4 or 5 months...and they kept saying...yes soon ...lol

Bring your EHIC card and/or get private medical insurance just so you are covered by something when you arrive.

I got mine last week - in and out in about 20mins.

You only need to complete the top section of the form - personal details, press number 1 to get your ticket and wait - there's 6 options for tickets depending on what you're in for, #1 is for section A

Passport and NIE are enough - I never got Empadronated till the following day. I did have my rental agreement but they never asked for it.

Do I have to go to LC, I was under the impression we could get them from the Hacienda in Adeje? Maybe i'm just confused

You must go to the social office in LC for the social number....so that you can give it to your employer for your healthcare payments.

The hacienda...is that not the tax people??
