Hello,
My names Lucy, Im 21 and currently in the UK (unfortunatly)
Me and a friend are coming over to las americas at the end of april for approximatly 7 mnths. (to begin with anyway)
We are saving up at the moment so that we can make sure we have enough for at least a months rent and to keep us going for a while.
We are going to London next month to sort out our NIE numbers as I have read that it can be a lot of hassle getting one when you are already there and also it can take a while to come and I dont think we will be able to afford to live for long without working!
I think we are just going to be doing pr work although my friend is half spanish and is fluent so who knows what she may end up doing as obviously she has a lot more options than I do.
I think I will end up just doing pr work, at least to start with as Linekers have said that we will be able to work for them as long as there are vacancies when we go over which Im sure there will be.
Now I know u are all going to reply to my following questions telling me to use the search engine and I have but couldn't really find what I was looking for (might just be me being blind!) so Im going to ask anyway....
How much can I expect to earn as a pr for a bar like linekers?
Can I realistically rent an apartment on this wage?....
We would like to rent a 2 bedroom apartment either in las americas or at least close to. Am I being a bit unrealistic thinkin that we will be able to afford a 2 bedroom? Its just that Ive been looking on the net and the way they seem to do it over there is have a 2 bed apartment but for 4 people with 4 single beds in, 2 bathrooms etc etc. We dont need all that would just be nice to have seperate bedrooms.
Hope you can help guys! |

With a spanish friend you could speak fairly fluent Spanish in 6 months. That would open up a huge amount of better paid jobs for you. you'll need more than a month's rent saved about £1500 each is more like the minimum. On a pr s wage you would struggle to pay your share and go out. _________________ .

Thanks for the welcome guys!!
Yes I have told her she has to speak to me en espanol for 1 week and no english to make me learn
OK thats fine as I have worked out I should be able to save around £2k and I will also be paid for one month from my job over here 2 days after we leave so if I get desperate I can just get that transfered over to help me out a little.
I did think that would be the case with the wages thing, Do u know roughly how much they get or is it not usually an hourly rate is it more like per head u get into the bar?
The good thing about being a pr is we wouldnt really need much money to go out as we would get drunk for free as we work (like they all do) and then when they go to tramps/rags etc etc they all get really cheap drinks as they are workers, but I do understand what you are saying....it may be a struggle....but then so many people do it!
Do most bar workers just have like a 1 bed apartment between about 4 of them or something?? |

Also, some places will give you a basic (I think Leanne from Chris_and_Leanne) used to get one? A lot are just for who you get in there though.
Why don't you get your friend to help you learn Spanish before you go out there, that way you might be able to get a job in a hotel or something that is a bit more stable than a 50c per head or whatever they pay? |

Yer thats a good idea....I do try and get her to teach me a word a day.
When we were over there in October and she would be talking spanish to people I actually understand a lot more than I realised I did, its just one of those things I pick up quite quickly.....so hopefully when Im around it all the time I will be able to speak a lot too!
To be honest though I want to be able to enjoy the sunshine for 7 mnths so I would prefer to have either an evening job or a outside day job, I spose Im just better off waiting till I get there and asking around as much as I can. |

Welcome to the forum Lucy.... I am very envious as I wish when I was 21 I'd taken the plunge and moved abroad so good luck - I take it the L stands for Lucy, is the P for your surname or any hidden meaning.... and is Little your size? _________________ Eat Drink and be Merry ! |
