Aulaga (Launaea arborescens) is a tough and prickly plant that grows in the malpais and rough dry and rocky areas especially in the south. It forms large masses of foliage in clumps that resemble American tumbleweeds and when they dry off they are sometimes used traditionally as improvised storm hedges. Aulaga has tiny yellow flowers like miniature Dandelions and it is in the same family the Asteraceae.
