I have noticed quite a few people and families returning back to the UK recently. I know 3 families just from Silencio, a family from Las Galletas and a couple more in the last two weeks alone. Has any one else noticed the same.
Its a shame but it is tough out there if you need to work. _________________ Treble99

I printed and laminated this, when i became a member, it was one of the first posts i read prior to registering, i wanted to mainly see the realist's point of view, and that from guys and dolls that had been succesful in the move. _________________ Never say never. |

This forum has a plethora of members who have made the move and been successful and those who have not been so lucky. Im sure, if you ask they will be happy to share their experiences with you.
I know you are thinking about "living the dream" and I genuinely wish you all the best with it. One of the key points to success when moving here is plan, plan, plan then plan again. _________________ Treble99

Another thing is to be realistic. EG don't call yourself a hard worker if you're not, I've seen so many people come here claiming to be 'grafters' or hard workers and yet they expect to work 35 hours a week, have weekends off and get disheartened when they don't earn all that they expect to. If you're not in the habit of working 80 hours a week then you'll probably not be capable of doing it here to make a success of things. _________________ .

| Totally agree guys, even here in Palm Mar we have seen a lot of people returning back to the UK recently, dreams broken, were expecting a 35 hour week, lots of free time, high wages etc etc. PLEASE anyone thinking of moving here and needing to work to survive DO your homework. |

Thanks for the guide a lot! It goes further than all the good expectations and dreams you have before realising the whole picture of moving and adaptation in a new palce.
I'm going to move with my family in next 1-2 years, but still have so much to do. I guess it's even harder to move from my country because of many reasons. But the fact is that a really low percentage of russians come back in their country after living some time in Spain.
Thanks again for a lot of useful information in this forum! _________________ Ésta es la tierra amada:

I see the thread is from 07.
I was actually looking for a thread where I could contribute something but will pause to comment.
Treble99 and those who replied have my appreciation.
I can relate to the comments about unrealistic expectations, the stress of moving etc. In the past eight years Kati and I have moved so many times we have lost count. Kati from Spain to America, both of us to a short time in India, then Spain for a year, back to America with a drive from east coast to west coast, a year in Ojai then to Hawaii for three years followed by three months in New Zealand, then to my home state of Colorado for a year, a move to near Yosemite in California, then to south of San Diego, north to Mount Shasta, a year in the Bay area as caregivers for a paraplegic woman with cancer which nearly killed us, a move to Kati's homeland of Germany - first to Bavaria where she'd not been, then to northern Germany where we are now. Whew! It all started when Kati couldn't stay in America due to immigration laws. We had just met and wanted to stay together. So it, and we, went from there.
Now we are looking at a move to Tenerife in October. I, like others mentioned in this thread, am glad to know about this forum before the move. Thanks! |

Wow Vision River! What a lot of travelling. That would make up a whole series of television travel programmes, not just one one hour slot.
I think that you will love Tenerife especially if you spend much of your time in the north of the island, and you do not dwell too long in the tourist hot-spots in the south of the island. However, I believe it will be just another of the places on the world map that you will point to when showing your grandchildren where you have visited during your lifetime.
As you have already discovered from a host of posts and advice on this forum, to set up home and to find work is very difficult. To achieve both objectives it is likely that you will need to settle in a land mass rather than an small island like Tenerife.
I suppose you had residential stay problems in New Zealand, in so far as you were unable to amass enough entry points. What a shame, because it is such a marvellous country.
Enjoy this lovely island when you get here. I look forward to reading about your experiences. _________________ Don't follow the 'MySpaceTenerife' link under my avatar because you will learn nothing about me.

New Zealand is beautiful. We were there the allowed three months. And we had marvelous, synchronistic experiences. It was tempting to stay, but my father was showing evidence over the phone of some deterioration. It was time for me to return to Colorado, my home state, for a year of being closer to him.
Many of my short stories are on the Acts of Peace site, and I would paste some of them into this board, if I find an appropriate forum. What is the policy about longer posts? They average 500 to 700 words.
New Zealand Dream
From days of youth I dreamed to be
in the land of the Kiwi,
where wooly sheep are more than men
and magic dwells in forest glen,
where ancient Polynesian pride
and English tea live side by side,
where Frodo found true friend in Sam,
and in New Zealand now I am.

No doubt somebody will be able to advise about the length of posts. I am not au fait with much computer technology, but isn't it possible to find a host for your stories so that you are able to post a link?
The first time Mrs Seagull and I went to New Zealand was on a three week organised bus tour in their summer of 1994. We vowed to go back after retirement to do it properly. We achieved that from the end of November 2002 until the end of February 2003. We thought that three months would satisfy our desire, but we have outside plans of going again before we pop our clogs. There are areas of both islands that we didn't explore. It is a fabulous country. _________________ Don't follow the 'MySpaceTenerife' link under my avatar because you will learn nothing about me.
