Hi, Remember those are AVERAGE figures so he/she could live a lot longer or less. At 8 years old he should be in the prime of life

thanks djpvjc, you had me worried there! and Sara , 8 years is not that old for a dog it is just the thought of anything happening to him because we would never forgive ourselves, Crying or Very sad personally i would jump on a plane tomorrow but theres others to consider. Also our daughter is 16 and leaving school in the summer and has suggested to come out for 2 months to see how we get on and if everything is ok go back and get the dog from his holidays at my mums and move out to the reef with him. Let's face it , I don't think we have anything to loose, nothing tried, nothing gained. I am not kidding myself we are going to have it easy and make any money, we want to go for the sun and if we spend all our savings ,,so what ,who cares, you only live once. Good holiday Rob?

I think I must have read it in a new paper so it must be true. Twisted Evil

Its just like us humans living longer, what with all the good health care etc (right).

As an aside I have just worked out I'm the same age as your dog, 8 years old (8 dog years that is, not mental age). http://www.onlineconversion.com/dogyears.htm

Plans, do you need a plan? Shocked

We are at the very start of winding up our affairs in the uk. We have to finish off winding up the estate of a recently deceased relative. The flat has to go on the market and be sold. (So probably 6 months Very Happy , but I really want to go now.) I guess then we can come out for our years trial. If the trial is successful, i.e. it is right for both of us. We will then look to purchase a home back from the resort centres and get our goods shipped out. Even on a failed trial (its not going to happen) we would purchase an apartment on Tenerife as we love the island. We should have really done that when I sold my flat.

Its all quite scary really, we have been waiting 10 years and now suddenly it is possible. I think I agree with Sara and you should take the risk with your pooch. There is nothing worse than waiting for a fateful day, and you will end up feeling bad because of it. Crying or Very sad

Wow! that could be a real problem, with your good lady. Surprised

What are her reservations? perhaps someone on the forum maybe able to help out.

I'm sure the trip out will give you another chance to prove how wonderful it is.

Is your other half good at languages, I have been having another go at Spanish with my other half. Unfortunately she did get a little upset when she could not remember some of the words. I think she felt too much pressure, rather than seeing it as fun to learn.

Good luck. Wink

I look at it this way...We only get ONE chance at life, this is not a practice, I would hate to get into my rocking chair and review all the things I could have done in my life but didn't have the courage to try. If you or your 'other half' doesn't like Tenerife after trying it what's to stop you saying ''no thanks I'll go back to the UK ''

I think her reservations are CHANGE and not knowing anyone out in tenerife, she only knows this way of life here, also if everyone thought the same then no other country would have imigrants.Personally I think it would be a wonderful learning experience in life and as Rob says you are only here ONCE and the worst that can happen is you go back home and get a job a few quid lighter but with a suntan and memories which will never be forgotten
