Every Tom, Dick and Harry with no real skills seems to think AAH! I can be a painter and decorator and earn my living in Tenerife. If you're a skilled man you'll find salaries low because of this. There is always some work to be had if you're cheap and good enough but whether it's enough to rent a 'decent place' depends on your standards. _________________ .

Good advice again from Rob.
I know painters and decorators here on the island, however I don't know any of them that can scratch a living from that alone.
Firstly, the market is crowded here. As Rob said, the world and his wife want to / NEED to earn some how, and many of them do see painting as an easy option. If you are a true, qualified decorator, firstly you will need to get amongst the building trade and its people. Most, not all, but most decorators get work as part of building projects that are sub contracted.
Having been on the Island for many years and therefor claim to know how it works, I would say that there is no chance of you earning a living here from that alone.
I would hazard a guess that you would at most, get 2 days per week decorating. I, to be honest see that as optimistic. If you did get 2 days per week, you could only charge a maximum of 90 to 100 euros per day. Add it up, 800 euros tops per month. Its not a lot.
Believe me, the Island is so, so hard to earn a living from. Due to this many people can not afford to pay decoraters. They do it themselves.
Good luck though. _________________ Treble99

But stay optimistic and keep thinking. Don't get downhearted by the replies. We try to be honest so people don't come here and waste their money setting up something that isn't likely to work. Rob and Treble have lived and worked here for many years and really know their stuff. Stay on the forum and ask any questions you like - if they have already been answered you may get a short, sharp "make a search for the answers" but that's because we often get the same ones; if they have not been answered then you will get honest replies. _________________ Who am I?
