 Post subject: Spanish TV Channels |

We have got the standard english channels through a small box by the telly, but now I want to watch Spanish tv to help me and the girls along with our spanish (plus theres never anything on except coronation street!)
To get ordinary spanish tv, do I need just an ordinary ariel plugged into the back of the telly? or do we need to get a dish/satelite system and how much can i expect to pay?
Also, can anyone tell me if you can watch tv in Spanish and have subtitles in english or vice versa? any help much appreciated. |

I take it the small box has a lead going outside to an ariel or dish for you to get english tv.
For Spanish tv I am guessing all you need to do as you say is plug the ariel from the wall into the back of your tele. Ask the complex president if its linked to an ariel or dish.
As for subtitles I do not think so. Would you get Spanish subtitles watching English tv in the UK. LOL
Good idea to improve your Spanish though.

I get about 8 Spanish channels through an old fashioned terrestrial aerial. There is also the digital equivalent of Freeview out here, subject to being in the right place to get the signal (which I'm not). Not sure how many channels it gets though.
Then of course there are various Spanish satellite channels, but I don't know much about them.
On the terrestrial channels, there are only English subtitles on a very small handful of movies. Most U.S. movies are just dubbed in Spanish.

We only have Spanish digital TV through a freeview type box. We get 23 Channels but the only interesting one is TVE2 'cos is shows Scottish football 
I haven't yet come across any English subtitles (in 4 months) and, as Funky said, the movies are dubbed in Spanish - you get used to it. It's amazing how you can still follow a movie with only a few words.
We do occasionally watch the news with dictionary at hand. They have a tagline across the bottom of the screen and knowing what this means can help get the jist of the story.

| I also haven't seen any English subtitles yet - they translate everything it seems. |
