Post Post subject: Hike in flight prices Reply with quote

I am looking for flights from UK to Tenerife for July and October and the prices seem to have doubled, anyone else noticed this?

Doubled from when? 20 years ago I used to be pleased if I could get one for less than £100. I've just bought a one way for £50 and expect to pay a similar amount for my return. I'm glad that I'm not paid the same as I was 20 years ago! During school holidays flights are more expensive.....OR.... out of school holiday times we get a good discount!

Rob yes i agree that during school hols flights are much more expensive, but Iv got to add, try getting flights from Glasgow or Glasgow Prestwick in scotland to TFS and tey prices always seem to be MUCH more expensive than flying from manchester , Gatwick etc.

I always have an awful time trying to get flights and nine time out of ten have to end up paying over the odds.

makes me sick hearing of people who can get cheap flights cause Iv never been able to get any flights less than £300 per head for two weeks...... either in July or December ( probably cause im tied to school holidays ) Sad

Post Post subject: Cheep Flights Reply with quote

Hi, this February we managed to buy flightd for £150 each return. In April iit is slightly cheeper. I have tried loking for flights at a similar price in June/July and October and they seem to be twice as dear. Perhaps I was lucky this time.

We got quite lucky in December we paid £90 return for us both!
Although some times when you check you are like where have they pulled that figure from ?!? It is very random. We priced up flights with Ryan Air at £30 and the day after it was 3 times as much! Although the cheap flight with Ryan Air on the way home last time showed, the staff were awful, and some of the passengers that were on the flight were just awful. We were unlucky enough to get sat in front of a couple whom used the worst language ever, they sat and ate this huge bag of crisps very loud so all you could hear was they lip smaking, burping, etc behind you ... she then made a commne t about look at all the snow when we were above the clouds?! And infront of us some parents let their children watch a whole cartoon film on a DVD thing with NO head phones on so people around had not other option but to listen to it... so all in all that flight was awful and if I could have paid more to not be in with such inconsiderate people I would have paid it !

Grr rant over ! Lea x

I have found there is not that much difference between the flight for begining of August and the end of September, and as for the really cheap flights, can't seem to get them from Newcastle, well thats a bit of a fib, if you are willing to take a chance and wait for the flights to turn up and can fly without the bother of booking holidays off work you can

Well done. Early Dec has always been a cheap time to fly, most people are too involved with Xmas preparations or are waiting for their expensive two weeks of Xmas/New Year in Tenerife therfore there are planes and crews doing nothing.

yes. it is a brilliant time to go. We went last minute last year and got £90 fares for the week before xmas week. It is a lovely time to go. THe UK is just chaotic and it is nice to go and get away from all the retail mayhem that happens in the run up to christmas. THe flights prices going the following week were around £600. Sorry, I love Tenerife but I am not prepared to pay that much.

Rob, sometimes I think you won't be happy until flights hit £500 a pop Laughing

Rob's certainly right about winter flights for £90 return including taxes being ridiculously cheap. Its a 4 hour flight after all. However, on the other end of the scale, they don't need to be charging £400 return in the middle of August or for Christmas either.

This summer, they are once again running the old gag whereby they limp out a few flights at a time in order to make everyone jump for the few remaining seats and pay top price for them. Then the next week, they limp out another flight with top price seats to keep everybody keen and desperate not to miss the 'last seat'. Its the oldest sales trick in the book, but passengers refuse to keep their nerve and call the airlines' bluff and hence fall for it every year.

The rip-off summer holiday prices could also easily be wiped out in a single season. Why don't all schools start a campaign or petition to encourage parents to refuse to buy rip-off summer, easter or xmas flights for just one year. The holiday industry would lose so much money that they will never again dare to exploit families with children in this way. Sure, the average price of all flights will go up, but why should off-season pensioners get a good deal whilst hard working families with children have to bear the brunt??

More importantly still, if holiday prices did not go up, parents wouldn't feel the urge to disrupt their children's education and future by dragging them out of school in term time just to save a few quid on their holiday bill.

But I doubt anyone will have the guts or the follow-through to do anything about it. Hordes of enjoy-now-pay-later parents will decide that its just too painful to miss out on their precious trip to Disneyworld for one year and hence will cave in to commercial exploitation once again. Rolling Eyes

Today I received an invitation to a football match in Brighton as a hospitality guest on 27th of this month. My initial search for return flights to Gatwick has found single fares of £400+. Something tells me that it's one match I will not be attending.
