Post subject: Passports. Spanish v UK |
|

I have done no internet research on this so am open to the wealth of knowledge from the forum.
Someone who shall remain nameless, been in Tenerife almost 10 years, wants to apply for a Spanish Passport. At present they have a UK one.
The only advantage they could give was 'Its cheaper' !!!!!!!!
Now I do not know much about passports but I would certainly never give up my UK one. Surely it is a much more powerful piece of ID than a Spanish one.
Anyone have any comments?

To apply for a Spanish passport you first need Spanish nationality. _________________ .

Thanks Rob, thats what I thought but they are under the impression because they have been in Tenerife for a certain amount of time they can apply for Spanish Nationality then a Spanish Passport.
Sounds rubbish to me

Its true, if they've been resident here for ten years then they are entitled to apply for Spanish citizenship. They must renounce their British citizenship and swear allegiance to the Spanish King and country.
Seems a very complicated and expensive process to go through just to save a few quid on a passport! _________________ .

I think if you asked a Spanish person they would disagree.
I can also see the advantages of being a citizen of the country in which you are living.
