Post subject: a few questions |
|
|
Hi, I've just been reading the posts in this category and a few questions come to mind. I hope somebody can help me with them please.
I get the impression that the 'LIVE' scene is not very strong on the reef, due mainly to the cost of bands compared to duo's etc. If this is the case, has there been any recent trend changes either way as most of the posts i've read are from last year.
I am looking into relocating at the moment and would be joining/forming a rock band. Not for earning my main living but as a suppliment to this and because like most musicians, I cant live without it.
Could any body advise me of the potential number of venues or weekly gigs available for, say a four piece rock covers band. And what's the average fee paid for such.
And Finally, (what do you mean 'thank God').
Are there any venues for 'Jam Nites?' I run a couple at the moment and would be a regular visitor, or if none exist, would seriously consider starting one providing there is enough interest.
Thanx very much, any info on the reef music scene would be greatly welcomed.

Bob, the situation for real rock bands is as bad as the other thread suggest! However, the Lizard Kings proved it is possible to function as a full rock band that gets paid. Looks like Soundchaser are doing the same. There are lot more Spanish bands but I don't think many make much in the way of money.
As for jam nights the only one I know of is at Brujas every last Friday of the month. It is an excellent venue I think. A friend of mine is about to start one in Costa del Silencio at the Starlight Cabaret bar. _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10

| If you want to do it every night like Lizard Kings or Soundchaser you'll be ok, if you want occassional gigs, like once a week you'll struggle - take a look at my bands website www.liveandloaded.com it might give you an insight into what it's like trying to have a band going on a part time basis. |

Well I for one will do my best to change the rock 'situation' Bard. I'm a serious player and the example of the LK and Soundchaser seem to prove it is warranted so I intend to work towards a similar profile for any band I become involved in.
Hi Loaded, had a look at your site. Been there lol, trying to do two at once. NIGHTMARE. Far too many conflicts of interests and clashes between members. I don't want to go down that route again.
I do intend to work as many gigs as I can get, not primarily for the money (but not for free either lol), mainly because I just love doing it. What other 'hobbies' allow you to frequent bars and clubs and be one of the causes of the fun; give you your 15 mins of fame regularly; have fun yourself with like minded people; And pay you for it? lol. _________________ Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder |

That's the sort of talk I like to hear, Bob! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

yeah that's how we did it, basically just for the crack and whatever else happened (money) was a bonus - After we stopped Loaded last May we carried on with the other band and had a great summer playing about a dozen gigs in different places including Chicago's, O'Callaghans, Flannagans and Browns bar on the patch.
Our problem at the moment is that our drummer is a compare and works 5 nights a week, of the 2 that he doesn't the singer can't play one of the days which leaves us Thursday..... |
