John, is this the only way you can drum up business, by getting involved in peoples posts?, surely theres a more professional way for you to conduct yourself, especially with you being a solicitor!

Penny, I'm not even going to sugar coat it like the others have. You are a pathetic, insecure weasel. First, you come on here in your very first post, having failed to show the courtesy of introducing yourself, just to insult Rob, one of the most knowledgeable, experienced and genuine people you could hope to meet on this island.

Then, after demonstrating your complete ignorance of the subject by being corrected by just about everybody else on here (including a local lawyer), you refuse to admit that you've lost the debate or have the courtesy to disappear quietly, but instead you begin mudslinging and insulting respectable forum members in a pathetic attempt to divert attention from the issue in hand.

You even attempt to denigrate anyone who regularly subscribes to an internet forum. Good luck with that one, I think you'll find thousands of people on this island who regularly CONTRIBUTE to internet forums. So what exactly are YOU doing on here then? (other than humiliating yourself of course).

Or perhaps, as the lunatic said to the asylum guard "I know I'm sane, its everybody else who's mad". Shocked

So what's your real beef? Are you perhaps a rental agent who doesn't like people knowing the truth? Are you in fact Fiona's rental agent hoping to divert her attention from your skulduggery? Or are you just a small minded busybody with nothing better to do than to scan internet forums and alienate everyone by posting about subjects you obviously know nothing about?

Quite frankly, I don't care which it is. Your posts to date have simply served to reinforce what Rob and others have been saying and you will be forgotten just as abruptly as you arrived.

wow, what has been going on here!!!!

Haven't signed anything yet as the estate agent is sending me through a revised contract for 6 months as i originally asked for.

She tried to railroad me into a 12 month contract as she said it was hard to get spanish in for 6 months as it doesn't give them long for things like installing telephone lines and getting satellite dishes put up setting up bills etc.

I know what i want and that is 6 month let, and that is why i haven't signed anything with them yet but i do seem confident that she will send through a ne contact,(me been naive, Confused

i hope not)

Anyway thanks for all the advice, its all been taken on board and i will let you know about the contract once i know anything further.

well.....................that is exactly what we are doing....chatting to our friends and helping them out where we can..............as some of us are more knowledgeable than others on different subjects we all pitch in and add our twopenorth.

I have found some information regarding the length of rental contracts on this website:

Basically saying that a normal rental contract should be for 5 years or, if less, then the owners are obliged to renew the contract each time up to 5 years. The only exception being if you want to live in the property but this must be stated in the contract.

I had heard of people staying for 5 years and not getting into trouble if there were problems and I suppose the owners cannot take them to court if they have not followed the law and renewed the contract as they are obliged to.

I have also heard that you can also get a "temporary rental contract" as this is a way around it apparently. But Fiona, please check with a lawyer first to ensure you don't have problems when you do want to come back. That'd be the last thing you needed.
