Hi everyone, Helena and Shiel here, just wanted to introduce ourselves, hoping to move over early next year!! We are both cabaret singers, and also do a Robbie Williams and shania Twain Tribute show, which we are hoping we will be able to continue to do when we get there!! Coming over in June for a wee holiday and to see if we would be likely to get work.
We are very busy here, so we would be taking a chance, but hey thats what lifes all about!
Our eleven year old daughter, Cora has just been diagnosed with a condition that causes her to have arthritis, amongst other nasty things, and that is really the main reason we are hoping to come over, as we think the heat would really help her condition, and hopefully stop her deteriorating as quickly. Also her condition is worsened by stress and hope that the laid back pace of life would also help her.
We have been looking at your forum for the past few days....you all seem so nice and welcoming, its nice to see that there are so many lovely people out there spending their time helping others achieve their dreams.[/b] |

Hi and welcome to you and your family.
Some people lead a very relaxed life here...and others lead a stressed out life, especially those who don't like the mañana attitude. Things can take forever to get sorted!! _________________ Who am I? Find out more here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=17

Hi guys, Thanks for the welcome!! Laid back is our middle name..so no worries there!!
Our heads are all over the place just now though, there seems so many things to consider about moving over, when to sell our house, spanish mortgages, bringing our equipment and car over?? Our wee doggies (we have two lhasa apsos, mum and daughter), schooling for Cora, think she may be a bit old to go to a spanish school, not sure if we would earn enough to afford Britania school LOL!!
Have learned so much already from this fab site......I havent done any housework for about a week!!.......I think i'm addicted!!

There is also wingate for an english school....
I would also say that if you wanted to bring your car then you could drive down to Cadiz in spain and take the boat...this also allows animals on for a small fee...cheaper than the airplane cargo way..and less stress cos you can go and see them lol..
Theres loads of info on here about all these things aswell, use the search facility at the top, but if you have any questions that are not covered, please feel free to ask

Hi Lea, Thanks for the welcome!
We are looking at Costa del silencio, as the prices seem very reasonable for buying an apartment there, I know from numerous previous posts that Rob reccomends renting for a good while but not sure about that(although we know it is the most sensible approach) ..... as my Financial Advisor here is sorting me out a mortgage (hopefully) and if I had all my equity sitting for a year I would probably spend it all on shoes!!
However we will be doing some serious research over the next few months, to help us make the right decision.
My main worry is that there are enough entertainers there already and we would maybe not get enough work, but our agent here in Scotland could set us up with a couple of weeks solid work, back home, every now and again if we needed the money. Dont want to blow my own trumpet, BUT, we are good at what we do so hopefully it shouldnt be too much of problem.

Hi Stripps,
Thanks for the info about the other school, does anyone know how much it costs per year? I think I saw somewhere that brittania is 3000 euros, but cant recall where I saw it to go back and check grrrrr!!
Also the boat may be a good idea, ( so long as Shiel does the boat thing and I fly. LOL) looking into that one! Cheers

hey and welcome! have you been to the island before?? i no youve said youre looking to buy first but it will proberly be more beneficial to you if you do rent until you find the area you want as you dont want to be living somewhere where its cheaper yet working and having schooling a long distance away and spending the x amount youve saved on travelling, also you may find you dont like the area youve bought in
if your learning spanish now and your daughter starts learning as well you could put her into a spanish school and she may be fine! youre best off speaking to the parents of the forum to see how their children got on although i think theirs may have been younger,
in regards to work obviously theres loads of acts on the island you would just need to keep trying different places and building a reputation for yourself up until you get yourself either somewhere more permanent or a heavier work load _________________ Coming to tenerife in may!!! |

Hi and a big big welcome from me too, you seem to well on top of sorting out things. As the others have said there is loads of info on the sun4free forum but I am sure there will always be one of us somewhere who may be able to help on different things etc.
Keep in touch and let us know how things are going.
Good to have you on board.

Hi loopy, and Sunny, thanks for the advice.
By the time we come Cora will be 13, I think it would be too important a time for her to expect her to deal with a new spanish school, also because of her condition she has missed a lot of school recently, she hasnt been to school since christmas, but now that she has been diagnosed and is on steroids, we are hoping she will go back next week. She has been doing spanish at school, and I did higher spanish, but I'm defo not fluent.
However we are looking into classes for all of us as hubby aint got a clue!....his idea of spanish is adding an "a " or an "o" onto english words - "Havo you o seeno myo wifo? " LOL! Amazingly that usually works on our hols., but we wouldnt dream of trying to live there without at least a basic knowledge!!
We have worked out from a map that Callao Salvaje and Costa Del Silencio would both be an acceptable distance from Wingate school and from the nightlife of PDLA and LC. (for working)!
So plan to hopefully live in one of those areas.
Thanks again to everyone for being so welcoming, we have had so much info from here already!......we'll probably be a right pain in the A*** over the next few months!!
