Hi Dianne, Thanks for the welcome, We had worked out it was about 15 minutes from Wingate to Callao salvaje! Oops, half an hour a bit too long a drive in the mornings me thinks! plus driving back to apt, that would be an hour roundtrip twice a day in the heat!! (time I could be spending sunbathing!!!) Back to the drawing board then ...lol.
Wherabouts in "Bonnie Scotland" are you from? We live in Coatbridge, where I am from, and the hubby is from Edinburgh.
You are a lucky thing being in the sun! It is unusually cold here this week, although it has started LOOK a bit brighter.......hurry back you could be in danger of missing our summer.!

No way, thats where my wifes parents are from Coatbridge. Her Gran passed away about a year ago and she lived in Coatbridge.
Clares said the thing she remembers most about Coatbridge from her childhood is the smell of coal fires burning in the houses.

From Silencio to Cabo Blanco it is at least 20 minutes, and that's on a good day when there is little traffic. However you will be going at peak time so would need to ive 30 mins too due to traffic in Guaza.
If you want to be close to Wingate school, have you considered living away from the coast? Buzanada, Cabo Blanco and La Camella are all popular areas with foreginers and yet they are close to Los Cristianos/Las Americas (10/15 minutes max.). Prices are also cheaper than in the main resorts. However you are unlikely to get a pool there. Take a look at the properties on
here to get an idea of what's available and prices. _________________ Who am I? Find out more here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=17

I know what Claire means about that smell, we didnt have a coal fire but everyone in my grans street did, and you could smell it really strong when it rained for some reason! Whereabouts in Cotbridge??
Thanks for the info Jenny! We really will need a pool as Cora is supposed to swim regularly to help her arthritis, its one of the reasons for our move. Does anyone know if there is a bus that would go from either silencio, or callao salveje to near Wingate?
I would run her for a year or so till she had her bearings, then she could maybe get a bus?
Thanks all!

There are buses up to Cabo Blanco but I don't think they are direct from Costa del Silencio. The bus company's website is titsa.com where you can have a look (available in English).
Or maybe someone else in the area goes to Wingates and could give her a lift. I know that many children from the resorts do go there. A friend of mine who lived in Silencio sent her son there but I'm afraid they've moved to New Zealand now so she won't be able to help! _________________ Who am I? | hi and welcome! hope things go smoothly for your move here. the climate here in tenerife has been appreciated as therapeutic for ages. there are clinics up in the national park of teide that were built, used, and then unfortunately abandoned! i hope it works for cora (a very common canarian name, short for coralia). have you tried chinese medicine? best wishes |

Hi Nia and thanks for the welcome! I haven't wanted to try anything alternative just yet......she only had a diagnosis 4 weeks ago, after 10 months of being ill, 3 months seriously ill. The steroids have helped her immensley but I dont like her being on them and they have said she is on them for life, so perhaps in the future, we could try some alternatives, but for now I am happy that the steroids have gave her a bit of relief. I have used chinese, and homeopathy in the past myself.
I didn't realise that about her name! She was chuffed when I told her....she would happily move over tomorrow, she obviously doesn't realise how much is involved!!!

Hi,
Wingate school have their school buses which pick children up from as far as Los Gigantes and def from Calleo Savaje. They also have chaperones on the buses. Lots of children use this service. But of course its another expense. Have a look at their website. |
