Hi I have looked through quite a few of these threads about DJ'ing, I have a residency in Cardiff city centre friday's and saturdays, I even find myself trebble booked as I also have some gofers working for me, what is the likleyhood of picking up a Karaoke venue over there? is there as much competition for KJ's as there is for DJ's?
I'm all computer run, and right uptodate with my Karaoke files. I do hear of people doing well in Spanish & Greek resorts so another question would be what sort of money would it bring in each night?

I've added this one as I have not come accross any karaoke threads as of yet.

There are plenty of bars here that do Karaoke but not sure if it's the owners who run it or not. Perhaps someone else can help you with that.

I think its generally comperes etc who do the karaoke stuff, obviously DJ'ing is done by DJs and often they are more likely to be a different type of bar.
As Jenny said, most bars do Karaoke, even if its just one night a week as often there will be acts on as well.
If you were to do that it may the the case that you are moving about from bar to bar throughout the week.
I think your best bet would be to come over and do a reckie (sp?) to see what the bars have to offer and where you would fit in.
Nows the time to start as its approaching summer season.

As for money, it depends entirely on where you are, how good you are etc. You will have to expect to work your way up and accept a minimal pay packet to begin with. I know 1 DJ who is on just 40 euros a night plus drinks, I know someone who comperes with karaoke who is on 60 euros a night and another DJ getting the same.
Also, if you are doing Karaoke, because of the noise laws etc you will more likely be doing less hours than DJing because they tend to stop at around 12 as opposed to some DJs who have to last til around 4/6 am
