Although I cannot comment on the 'Tenerife Sun' Newspaper as until now, have never heard of it or had the chance to read from it.
I can say that any editorial which provides the reader with informative and interesting content in a different point of view, has to be worth inclusion..
On that note you have got my support Bard...

Hi Bard,
Got the following back via e-mail today: -
But who is Andrew Stevens?
Think he got in a twist, (he got it right the first time he quoted it) lol.
Also, I did not imply that The Tenerife Sun has refused to publish any of your articles!!! I merely asked him to re-instate your column, explaining that I considered your articles of great interest.
| Quote: | Thank you for your e-mail regarding Steven Andrews.
The Tenerife Sun has not refused to publish an article by Andrew Stevens. All articles sent to us are considered for publication if we feel they are relevant to our reader. Therefore would you like to inform Andrew of this and we would be happy to consider one of his articles in the future.
Yours sincerely
Paul Knight |
Ah well. Sounds like you ought to start sending them in.
Best of luck, Mary _________________ Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional. |

Thank you for this - it looks hopeful even if he doesn't know my name which doesn't make a lot of sense after Roger the former editor had recommended me twice and Paul Knight had emailed me and said:
"...I am not sure yet which way we will go with the articles previously used by Roger, so if I may have a little time to consider this option, in which case I will contact you shortly."
And I replied:
Thank you for getting in touch, Paul!
I have just picked up the new paper today and was going to email you anyway!
Please do consider having my column again - it was something I took
pride in writing and had proved popular with plenty of compliments
received for my stories both on websites like Myspace where I had
posted links, by email and in person by people on the island.
Obviously I would like to continue it if possible!
I don't know if Roger has told you but I was helping increase the
paper's range by taking a bundle to leave in Icod bus station paper
shop and at a bar restaurant in San Marcos where I live.
I hope you will have me contributing to the Tenerife Sun again.
Best wishes,
Steve
So it looks like I can send stuff in but have no guarantee whether it goes in or not and no idea what payment I would get. Not exactly an ideal situation but better than nothing and I will try him again I think. I am not putting together a whole story with photos on the off chance he may use it! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

I agree Bard, you could spend a lot of time putting an article together - "just on the off change he may us it"
Perhaps if you could get something accepted, it could lead to getting your regular column back at a later date. _________________ Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional. |

I don't want to work that way - I have done too much of that sort of thing in the past! Giving freebies away just lets them expect more! It's OK when you are just starting but I have been on that paper since 2005! I find it somewhat annoying that the owner who has been told about me twice by the former editor, has emailed me and received a reply from me and yet is now so vague about it and gets my name wrong when without being at all egotistical I was the most conspicuous writer in the paper with a colour photo in every issue showing my green beard and a description blurb proclaiming that I am a poet, musician and amateur naturalist! I mean what exactly do I have to do to get recognised here? _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

Thanks for your support too, Nia! I am no further forward with this seeing as he hasn't contacted me and as I've explained I don't want to spend my time writing an article and sorting out photos for it just to send it in and hear nothing and have no guarantee of any payment either!
I had the same problem - couldn't find much info on nature in English only David Bramwell's books and there's not that much in them really, so I have been buying books in Spanish because of that. Now I know lots of Spanish names for wildlife that many Canarians probably wouldn't know! lol _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

Update on this:
As I feared the new editor wanted contributions for free and has people writing for him for no pay.
I can't afford to live on writing for the love of it so that's the end of my work in the Tenerife Sun! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

Sorry to hear that Bard,
Working for the love of it is not going to feed you and the cats.
I hope something else comes your way soon. _________________ Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional. |

Thank you, Mary! Personally I think it's ridiculous expecting people to spend their time working for nothing while the person they are doing this is making money out of using what they have done, but if people are prepared to well, good luck to them! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

I have sent 2 emails to the Tenerife sun about something else, then filled in the contact form as well.
I have had nothing back. Almost 2 weeks ago now. _________________ Need a cleaner in South Tenerife ? Cleaning just got better... www.maid4tenerife.com

Well, Karl, the editor reads this forum so maybe he will see what you've just posted and you will get a reply? _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |
