In the plaza by the church of San Marcos in Icod de los Vinos when there is a fiesta or special event they always have a lot of decorations along the grove of trees and it looks really pretty.

That looks really nice Bard,

I love to see the decorations for the fiestas if we are lucky to be over at the right time!

I didn't bother to find out - I was tired after walking back from Ruigomez and was on my way home but snapped the pic in passing!

Mrs Seagull and I have been lucky to visit Icod during the same fiesta twice, but in different years. I believe it is during the month of November. Anybody who has visited this lovely picturesque town will know that it is built on some very steep hills. For a few days during this fiesta some of the roads are closed to traffic and kids of both sexes and all of ages get on to home made sleds and launch themselves from the top of the road. The sleds resemble tea trays and the youngsters only way of steering is with their garden gloved hands. With no brakes to stop them they finish up at the bottom of the road in to a pile of old tyres.

Somewhere on here I have written an article on it. It's the feast of San Andreas on 30 th Nov and is the traditional day for tasting the new wine accompanied by roast chestnuts and in some places sardines. The kids rattle around on any old iron (tablas) sledges to make as much noise as possible in order to scare away the devil so that he doesn't sneak into the bodega (wine cellar).

Brilliant, I like it - protect the wine cellar.
But it wouldn't be allowed here in the UK (Health & Safety) lol!

And that is one big thing wrong with the UK now that has been allowed to happen with political correctness and other stuff straight out of Orwell's 1984 and it could happen here yet but hasn't so far to that degree! One of the main things I love about Tenerife is it is like going back in time and it really was a better time I think! Right now I am listening to a bunch of lads happily kicking a ball about - I hate football but I love to see and hear young people playing the game and enjoying themselves. Who gives Big Bro/Nanny State the right to decide what is healthy or safe - can people not decide for themselves? I have heard that playing conkers are not allowed in the UK now! People within a community should decide the rules for it not some faceless man in London or Brussels!

Well said Bard, We like the "laid back" Tenerife attitude, and hope it does not change.

You hear about some stupid things happening in the UK and it makes you think "is it April fools day?"
