Post Post subject: More ducks Reply with quote

I posted fairly recently that ducks were commonly seen on farms in the north
and today I saw a wonderful example of this near where I live in San Marcos. The farm these are on has a big water tank for them to swim in and and plenty of ground and vegetation, much of which is made up of the crops, which include grapes, onions, potatoes, papayas, figs, maize and lettuce, none of which are planted in the monoculture method but are mixed together.

To my mind this is how farming should be and why Tenerife is a much healthier place for wildlife.

I am so glad you like the pic, Steph! Smile The ducks look happy ducks to me and I was showing a friend how the farmers here have their crops all mixed together. Those ducks could wander about amongst the plants and you can see some red onions in the rear part of the photo. Or they can swim in the water.

The plants were all growing well and my friend was impressed with all the bird song in the area as well as the vast number of lizards and I said yes, here you have the type of old-fashioned farming and food crop growing and wildlife do OK with it unlike the fields of one crop only that have become the norm in the US, UK and elsewhere where birds and other wildlife are vanishing. This is one of the main reasons I love Tenerife!
