The Everlasting Pea (Lathyrus latifolius) is a very pretty plant often found in large patches clambering its way over other vegetation and fences in many parts of Tenerife and in other parts of the world where it may have become naturalised. It is a perennial plant and also is very invasive spreading by self-seeding and is regarded as a weed by some people even though it is very beautiful.

Lovely, but it doesn't look very 'everlasting' to me. The leaf on the left is already withering... Laughing

Actually that's a flower and it is forming a seed pod full of seeds to ensure the species is everlasting!

Is it the same as a Sweet Pea?, as we grow them in the garden, we save the pods for the following year, beautiful perfume, just a few in a vase scents the whole room, for a few days

No, it the same family but no perfume and will grow back year after year from the roots. Sweet Peas are planted from seed each year.

I don't know about Masca but all the other places have grown back fine. In some places all sorts of wild flowers have sprung up and look really colourful.

Bad news though: La Gomera have just had new forest fires and a lot of damage was caused.

It nearly spread into the Garajonay National park and 1,000 people were evacuated. Police have detained a 53-year-old man according to Tenerife News!

Why would they set fire to a place to cause such destruction ? How did the fires in masca start ? I heard a rumour it was about water ?!?

Oh I am glad that the place is starting to fight back, I just love the place !

That was who did it in Gran Canaria!

The story here was that someone who had tried to do this repeatedly finally succeeded and it was said he was helped by his teenage sons. The area it was started in was Icod el Alto near Los Realejos. As far as I know they never caught the arsonist so it's worrying that he could do this again and, to my mind suspicious that they can say where and how many times it had been tried in the past but can't arrest the man responsible!

Once again, Bard, congratulations on capturing nature, in an exquisite form. It really is quite beautiful and colourful, much like All in this forum...!!
