Hiya
It all depends first of all on whether you have an external or an internal phone line.
Most complexes have internal phone lines where you have to dial 0 for an outside line and then dial the number you want. This is becuse of the shortage of telefonica lines. The way our place works is that we pay a deposit to open the phone line and if you go over the money you get cut off etc etc. Fairly straight forward.
Check if you even have a phone socket to start with as our friends dont have one in their apartment so wont be able to have phone OR internet.
Any problems, send me pm or email : info@isyourpcbroken.com as my other half works as an IT and computer engineer and can do it for you no problems.
Cheers
p.s, I warn you, unles you get adsl, it will be VEEEEERRRRRYYYYY slow. (even adsl can be slow) |

If you can get a phone line, then its very easy. The hard bit is getting a phone line though.
adsl costs, I believe, €38 per month plus €18 fo line rental. That is your basic 512 speed.
Telefonica are very tight with phone lines though, your best bet will be internet cafes for the short term. |

Check with telefonica about availability, I got mine in two days with the ADSL a day later!!!!!!! There are some miracles left. Honestly it depends where you are, some places the exchanges are at capacity. If you have a good friend nearby consider RDSI it works on one line but can have 3 or 4 numbers in total, all billed seperately but to the same person. So you can run a cable next door and have a phone which works independently. The same can be done with ADSL although you slow the connection as you put more on.
While I'm talking phones, telefonica are expensive for calls but lowcall, who i use are CHEAP. You only rent the line from telefonica.
Another point, when you ring 1004 to get adsl you'll get a recorded message in Spanish, DON'T hang up just say the word 'English' and you'll get through (after a wait) to english speaking operators.
Now I'm dry after telling you all that.
Who's buying me a beer? |
