I am without doubt, one of the most interesting chaps you could ever have the pleasure to meet. The long winter evenings just fly by in my house. I can keep you entertained for hours with my riveting yarns about my tea towel and strange shape turnips collection, not to mention my interesting collection of tank tops, especially the one with a picture of Bill Odie on it. I also only need to spot 3 Eddie Stowbart lorries with the names Tracey Ann, Sharon Grace and Bett Lynch on the cab to complete the fleet. It is due to the many hours I spend on the motorways of the UK in my Datsun Cherry on my quest to spot these 3 illusive Stowbart lorries, that my new favorite hobby has been born. Shoes and football spotting......

You can not fail on the motorways of this great country to spot, amongst the bottles of wee that have been kindly disregarded by truckers, shoes and footballs. They lie lonely on the hard shoulders or amongst the Big Mac cartons and pheasant carcases on the central reservations.

What amazes me about this phenomenon is where do they come from?. You only ever see 1 shoe and not a pair, and they range from kids shoes, brogues, workman's boots, ladies stiletoes and I once spotted a dunlop greenflash which to be honest, made my week. As for the footballs, I ask you the same question. Is there a secret society in the UK where members, under the cover of darkness, like to play “one foot football” on our motorways, then fail to find their other shoe and the ball in the darkness when its time to return home for coco and bed?

You never come across this phenomenon in Europe,just the UK.

When my friends ask me “how was your journey?”, I now reply, “very interesting, it was a 13 shoe and 2 football trip”.

I will leave you to ponder on this subject and can assure you that if you keep your eyes peeled, you will see a shoe or a football on at least every 10 miles of motorway. Forget playing “eye spy” with the kids now on your long journeys, get them to shoe and football spot. Its much more fun and I am the daddy of fun, believe me.
