Post subject: Butterflies - anybody seen any lately? |
|
|
After having too many Monarch butterflies for me to deal with I now have the other extreme of not one and haven't seen any on the island for at least a month here or elsewhere. I also have seen very few of the other types of butterflies found here and this seems very odd for a hot time in the year. All I can think of was that the calima followed by 45mph gales was too much for them and killed a lot off or blew them away. I can't think of any other reason why they have vanished!
But hopefully I am wrong and others on the island will have seen butterflies recently? _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

Hi Bard I know the calima killed off a lot of plants as well as we have found on our complex plus out own personal plants on the balcony.
But we DID SEE a monarch butterfly yesterday in Cabo Blanco but it was only just one though |

Well, that's a start - now if it can find another of its species and if its a female if she can find any milkweed... _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

I haven't seen any recently either. And some of my milkweed plants are not looking very healthy either - think that kalima dried some of them beyond repair _________________ Who am I? Find out more here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=17
I will make this day a happy one for I alone can determine what kind of day it will be. |

It's a real shame and the plants in the border in Silencio where they always were had already gone too so with all these factors against them they need all the help they can get even more so now! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

Yesterday I saw plenty of butterflies but no Monarchs. I was in Ruigómez and Erjos and saw loads of Meadow Browns and Canary Island Speckled Woods and some Cabbage Whites. The butterflies were flying even when it was very cloudy. _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |
