Post subject: Settin a driving license in English |
|

Hi there!
I registered in this forum more than a year ago but I stopped writing because I moved to Poland for a while.
Here Im back with my Nz boyfriend and he needs to get a drivin license. He doesnt speak too much Spanish and as far as I know there is no driving license school in Tenerife that takes exams in English.
We were thinking that cos he has a British license he can jump over to the Uk and get his license there but we were told that you need to be a resident for 6 months in the Uk if you want to take the license :S
Is that true? :S
Has anybody had the same problem?Any idea? :S
He wont be able to get the theoritical exam here with its multiple choice answers and his poor Spanish. It was difficult for me and I speak Spanish... ((
Anyway, glad to be back in Tenerife, home sweet home !!!

You need to ask in the uk about a kiwi taking his test there, not a tenerife forum. synchronicity posted details of his trials and tribulations of passing the local driving test on this forum, just use the search. _________________ .

I have heard that there is a school who do everything in English but not sure whether this is just wishful thinking on someone English's part!! I have not had time to look into it but was told it is in Las Americas (on or near one of the Santiago complexes if I remember correctly). If you find out, please come back and post the info on here so we can tell others about it. _________________ Who am I? Last I knew, there was a test you could take in english, but you have to go to lanzerote for it.
The process of getting a license in the canaries is very different to the UK, and I believe you are not allowed an interpereter.
As rob says, ask in the UK at the chances of him taking the test there cos I think that might be your best bet.
I think if he has a british passport he should be ok...but you have to have been a UK resident for at least 6 months (i think its 6 months...might be 9 or 12) and have a uk address. _________________ http://tufftoppers.jimdo.com/
