We are moving in May, I have been in touch with Newcastle, they said that if you are moving abroad and looking for work (not retired) I will need an E106 form, which entitles you to free healthcare, this is valid for 12 months, could anybody inform me if this is so and is it easy to use.
Thanks

Surely if Newcastle (which I assume to be a gov. office) have told you that it's true then it should be a better source of info than heresay? Is it easy to use? Do you mean will the Local doctors allow you to use it? I don't know but probably the clinics will as it's all money to them.

Thanks for all your replies.

I have been in touch with Newcastle, and you have to phone 1 month before you travel to fill in the E106 form, when in Tenerife, take it to the Social Security to be stamped, then you are in their system for healthcare same as in the UK. You will be taken of the UK healthcare system.

Only thing is you need an exact date you leave and an address. As we are going to be looking for an apartment to rent when we get there, this is proving to be an headache. They advised us on getting a Box No. any ideas

Thanks

I recently got the European Health Insurance Card (credit card size), which is the replacement for the old E111 form. I applied for it via the DSS website, which was quick and painless, and it arrived within a few days. It obviously covers visitors to Tenerife for major medical treatment, but I'm curious as to how long anyone has got away with using the scheme after actually moving to Tenerife for good? For example, do they ask for proof that you don't live in Tenerife etc?

Not sure of this will help but we also have our European Health Insurance Cards, we are moving over 28-03, after checking you will only be covered if you are paying into the national insurance system in UK. Luckily I am going to be working for a UK company so will be covered by my card. If you are not paying into the uk system then you have to apply in Spain. Thats the info I have but I am learning quickly that information differs all the time from different sources!!!!
