What you're asking is extremely common Mark. However, very few people are prepared to do what is necessary to make a bar work in Tenerife, notwithstanding the fact that there are way too many as it is.

Most people want to come to Tenerife to have the good life and avoid hard work. Running a bar is the exact opposite of this. I also have to say (quite bluntly) that the way you explain your thoughts and wants in your posts makes it reasonably clear that owning a bar is not for you.

That said, the only way to tell is to come here and work in a bar and see for yourself. Hell, you might just prove us all wrong. Very Happy

My best friend who is still on the Island got a bar with her Canarian boyfriend. I went out with her ONCE in 6 months, and she went straight in from her night out to get ready for the breakfast run in the morning.

They were both ALWAYS in the bar, if one was in the bar without the other they were at home grabbing some sleep, this was a small bar, with Spanish and English in a relatively busy part of PDLA with a pool table and darts machine. She PR'd to get some business otherwise people would just walk past and glance in. It was 20 hours a day 7 days a week and they never really had any money. Some morning I would come and help them out and they would have slept for an hour or something on the pool table as they didn't have the time to go home before they needed to open up for the breakfast trade> where they made some good customers and could get them to come back at evening.

They lasted about 2 years I think and then packed it in, as they both could make considerable amounts of money more doing what they did previously. Being Canarian they had a running start... many Canarians would go into the bar and they still didn't manage to make it work.

She now works in a pool bar for a hotel and LOVE it, her life is so much more carefree and she can now enjoy what she loved before... working behind a bar, meeting new people.... when she had a bar she did not have the time to enjoy this ever....

You really need to think about it and READ some of the posts on here.

ROB posted a really good post on here a while back about a man he helped out who bought a bar and was not taking some things into accounts, if you use the search facility you will find it.

GOOD LUCK finding the easy life, when you find it will you let me know the secret !
